Ages 8-10 - The Junkyard Wonders
Do kids give up on picture books too soon because of their desire to transition to chapter books? I love the higher level picture books by Patricia Polacco. Ages 7-9 - Bink & Gollie
Bink & Gollie is a humorous friendship story, perfect for this age group because friendships are becoming more important. The dialogue is fun and engaging. It works well as a read-aloud for younger kids, and the older ones will enjoy reading this book on their own.( Ages 7-9)

A dystopian love story about a future world where every aspect of people's lives is controlled to obtain optimal results. Cassia has always thought that this way was the best way, but a developing friendship with a boy who is not supposed to be her match causes her to doubt the Society. (Age 13+)

Young Adult - Between Shades of Gray
This is a horifying and eye-opening account of the deportation of thousands of Lithuanians by the Soviets in 1939. Lina is a 16 year old girl who along with her mother and younger brother are transported to a forced labor camp in Siberia. Difficult but important read.

Young Adult- Shine
This book is about a teenage girl who decides to find out who perpetrated a hate crime against her friend. This is an intense mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat, and deals with issues of intolerance, drug use, and sexual abuse. (Young Adult)
