Cristobal Colon was born on Génova in 1451.

He had two little brothers, Bartolomé and Diego. His father had a loom business and a small cheese shop. Columbus began to take a liking to the sea and when he was a teenager he enlisted as a cabin boy on a boat from his city.

In 1479 he married Felipa Moniz de Perestrello. With she had her son Diego, future viceroy of the Indies.

Althought the habitants said that he was mad, he continued in search of the lands of his dreams and in 1472 he succeeded, he discovered America.

Welcomed by the Franciscans of the convent of La Rábida in the vicinity of the port of Palos, and helped by the ex-confessor of Queen Isabella the Catholic, Fray Juan Pérez, Columbus presented his project to the Catholic Monarchs, who, after two rejections, in April 1492 they granted him the Capitulations of Santa Fe.
