The Twin Towers
The terrorist attack on the world trade center was a tragedy to the people of America. It all happened because of how little security there was at airports. The terrorists attacked by sneaking aboard a plane in Washington D.C. and knocked out the pilot and then they flew the plane strait into the twin towers. After the attack, the security got strict and they took a long time to clean the mess up but now it is all cleaned up and memorialized. -
No Child Left Behind Act
In the year of 2002 President Gorge W. Bush signed the No Child Left Behind Act. The Act states that all children must be educated. He said this in a speech that day: “ Some say it is unfair to hold disadvantaged children to rigorous standards. I say it is discrimination to require anything less. It is the soft bigotry of low expectations.” From then on, all children were taught. -
Columbia Space Shuttle Disaster
February 1, 2003 was a tragic day for many people. Seven crew members of the Columbia Space Shuttle died. The flight was all going well and everything was on track until it got bad, there was an explosion and the crew died. The debris of the space shuttle spread from parts of Texas to some of Louisiana. -
President Bush Election
The race for President of the United States was on. Who was going to win Bush or Karry? The election was close, but the votes came in and it was 251 against 286 votes and the winner is President Bush. Bush owed his win all to the state of Ohio which gave him the 20 votes he needed to win the election. -
Dwarf Planet Discovery
The discovery of the dwarf planet Eris was announced July 29, 2005 although it was discovered by a group of scientists in January of 2005. It is the largest Dwarf planet recorded in history, the biggest of the smallest. Pictures of it were taken in 2003 but they thought it was just a small star. -
Apple Sells 1 Billionth Song
A 2006 celebration. In 2006, Apple, the well known business has sold its 1 billionth song. It was a good thing then, but soon they will get to the top of their market. -
Earthquake in Japan
A big tragedy in Japan can be very triggering. In 2007 a earthquake hit Japan and damaged a nuclear power plant. The power plant had 300 gallons of water and it a spilled and released the radioactive water. It took years to clean up. -
Obama Election
The speech said it all. In 2008 when Obama won the election against McCain and became the 44th president, it was most likely the happiest day of his life. After the election he bought his girls a dog because he was so happy. Obama was sworn into office in 2009 and still is today. -
The Crown Closes
In 2009 the crown of the Statue of Liberty closed. The reason was because of the world trade center terrorist attacks and the lack of security. Before it closed, many people were able to go into the crown. Security has increased and now many more people can enjoy going in to the tower. -
BP Oil Spill
One drilling rig can make a gigantic problem. In 2010 an Oil Rig in the Gulf of Mexico burst and sent oil into the waters of the Gulf to parts of the US coast. It was not contained until months later. Now it has been all cleaned up. -
Royal Wedding
2011 was a time to get royal for Kate Middleton. In 2011 Prince William and Kate Middleton got married. It was a very big event shown on TV all over the world. Right now they are still together and happy. -
The London Summer Olimpics 2012
The crowd is cheering and the fans are ready; it is the Olympics. The Olympics of 2012 were for sure the best Olympics yet; USA had the highest amount of medals. But sadly, it had to end on August 12. I hope the next summer Olympics in four years is even better.
