  • Founder of analytic philosophy

    Bertrand Russell, with the help of G. E. Moore, developed a new branch of philosophy that focused on the analysis of the scientific method and science in general called analytic philosophy. He strongly believed in tangibility and tentativeness in science and philosophy. He helped do this by being an activist in the idealism movement during the early 20th century and through the revolt of metaphysics, one of the original branches of philosophy that focuses on abstract ideas and concepts.
  • Wrote "The ABC of Atoms"

    He wrote "The ABC of Atoms" around the time he divorced his wife, Alys Pearsall Smith, when he found out his mistress, Dora Black, was 5 months pregnant.
  • Wrote "The ABC of Relativity"

    Russell, Bertrand. The ABC of Relativity. Kegan Paul, 1925.
    He wrote this novel while he raised his children, wrote popular novels, and founded the experimental Beacon Hill School.
  • Awarded the Order of Merit

    He was awarded the Order of Merit in 1949 after becoming an acclaimed intellectual, along with his friend Albert Einstein. Around the same time, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
