Higlac heard that a monster Grendel was terrorizing Hrothgar and so he decided to send Beowulf, Beowulf decides to take 14 of the strongest and bravest men he could find and set out to defeat the monster.

Beowulf waited for Grendel pretending to sleep while everyone else slept. As soon as Grendel grasped him in his hands Beowulf broke free and fought him with his bare hands. Beowulf won in the end while Grendel ran back to his den waiting for his death

After Beowulf Defeats Grendel's Mother he returns with Grendel's head and the hild of the Giants sword. Beowulf returning to herot happy with his accomplishment put Grendel's head on the table where the king and the queen were drinking and eating.

Beowulf says that he would use no sword or weapon if the monster could be killed wihtout it, but he explains that his breath will be burning hot poison pouring form his tongue. That he feels no shame with a shield and sword in hand. He talks as if it is his last battle and fate is not siding with him this time.

Beowulf went straight into the battle with courageous thoughts. No coward could ever stand where Beowulf was. He put his sheild in front of him, it held for awhile but then the shield began to melt. At this moment Beowulf knew that for the first time he would be fighting with fate against him.

Beowulf starts losing the battle and when the other soldiers see this they decide to run. But wiglaf runs into save Beowulf and help him defeat the dragon together. He says that hed rather burn than to see flames swirling around his lord.

Wiglaf went into the castle that the dragon was protecting. Beowulf was able to land the finishing blow with his dagger. After wiglaf went in he saw tons of gold and a glorious banner made with the best threads. He quickly returned to Beowulf and he wanted all of his men to share these riches

Uferth- A Danish warrior who is jealous of Beowulf, Unferth is unable or unwilling to fight Grendel so Beowulf makes fun of him for it.

Wiglaf - Helps Beowulf in the fight against the dragon while all the other soldiers ran away. -
People have seen around the forest two demon like creatures. One representing a female and the other said to walk like a man. Hrothgar has no choice but to ask Beowulf for help again in the fight against Grendel's mother.

Unferth met with Beowulf before his journey and he gave him his sword hrunting with an apology Beowulf takes the sword with him to battle after the first strike he found out that he is unable to cut the skin of the beast. He takes a sword from the wall that was made from giants. He was able to defeat her with the sword.

Beowulf - Main character in the story that is the hero who saves people from monsters that attack them. He is courageous, strong, and brave.
Grendel - Descendent of Cain. He is evil and he attacks Herot for days bringing them greif.
King Hrothgar - Danish king, He enjoys military success and peace until Grendel comes and terrorizes them.
Grendel's Mother - Mother of Grendel terrorizes Herot for vengeance of her son Grendel
Dragon - An ancient powerful monster that guards treasure in a castle -
