Benito Juárez was an important Mexican liberal during the time of the U.S.-Mexican War. Juárez was born into a peasant family in March 21 1806. Juárez was a lawyer and an active liberal politician at the city and state level.

Before starting school at age 12, he worked in the fields and didn’t speak Spanish. He entered Oaxaca Institute for the Arts and Sciences in 1827 and received his law degree in 1831.

Juárez was appointed President of the Supreme Court. In 1855. In 1863, aided by the Conservatives, French forces took control of Mexico City. In 1863, the French forces advanced their way in, thus causing him and his government to go in exile from Mexico City.

The extension lasted till 1867 when the last of the french forces defended. In 1866, after the US opposed the French forces, they began to pull out from Mexico. Back in 1867 he was re-elected as presidents of mexico.

In 1871, he was again re-elected as the president By late 1860 the conservatives were faltering, and in January 1861 Juárez was able to return to mexico city. and was constitutionally elected president.

In 1846, the Liberal Party took power and Benito Juárez joined the push for liberal causes. In 1855, Santa Ana’s government collapsed and Benito Juárez returned from exile.
