Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch was born in the London district of Hammersmith, his father is Timothy Carlton and his mother is Wanda Ventham and he has a half-sister, Tracy Peacock.

1984

First years of shcool

In 1984 he attended to Brambletye, a school near East Grinstead in West Sussex and he also took a secondary scholar at arts in Harrow School.

1988

Scholar plays

By the time he was 12, he made his debut as Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dream at Harrow School. His first leading role was Eliza Doolittle in Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion

1990

The best schoolboy actor

His teacher, Martin Tyrell, said he was "the best schoolboy actor" he had ever worked with in the school but despite of his skills, he warned Cumberbatch about an acting career telling him that "It is a though business".

1996

Gap Year

He took one gap year to be a volunteer English teacher in Darjeeling, India

Training

After having a gap year he continued to train as an actor at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art Victoria University of Manchester.

2001

The beggining

Since this year, Cumberbatch started to have multiple leading roles in various plays. He presented at the Regent's Park Open Air, Almeida, Royal Court, and Royal National Theatres.

2004

BAFTA Nomination

He portrayed a young Stephen Hawking, imitating the early stages of his motor neuron disease, this interpretation was so well done that it earned him a BAFTA nomination.

2006

Starter for 10

In 2006 he participated in his first film, Starter for 10 which is a college comedy, and a year later he appeared in the film Atonement.

2010

Sherlock

In 2010 he got a lot of popularity as a media actor when he starred the TV series, Sherlock (From BBC)

After the dance

In June of 2010 he played "After the Dance" at the Royal National Theatre. This play won 4 Olivier Awards including Best Revival.

First Emmy

In 2014, Cumberbatch achieved his first Emmy award for his role in the show Sherlock.

Alan Turing

He played Alan Turing in 2014 in the film "The Imitation game" which is an adaptation of the life of the person who solved the enigma code and invented the world's first computer to do so. This is also my favorite movie in which he has appeared.

Voice acting

Also in 2014 he participated in the voice acting for The Penguins of Madagascar interpreting Classified, or at least that was the only name we knew for his character.

Back to theatre

In this year he returned to the live performance in a production of Hamlet at London's Barbican Theatre.

In 2015 he married Sophie Hunter after 2 years of relationship. They have 3 children together and they are still engaged.

2016

Becoming Strange

2016 was the year he made his debut into the superhero movies playing Doctor Strange for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His role was beloved by most of the fans and he continued to play him to the current day.

President of LAMDA

That year, Cumberbatch succeed Timothy West as president of LAMDA.

In 2018 he made another voice acting job for the animated movie, The Grinch.

In 2019 he was part of the cast of Avengers Endgame, the movie that for a brief moment was able to become the highest grossing movie followed by Avatar (James Cameron)
