After returning to Ankara, Bergen performed as an artist at Başkent Gazinosu in 1979, with the cast including Bülent Ersoy, İbrahim Tatlıses and Müjde Ar. Bergen, who said that she fell in love with Serbest, who was divorced from her husband, despite the violence he inflicted on her, married her in an official marriage on January 9, 1982.

While Bergen was in Izmir to work on October 31, 1982, he was viciously attacked by a hitman instigated by his estranged wife. Attack; While Bergen and her mother were about to get into a taxi at the door of the New York pavilion in Alsancak, it was carried out by a hitman hired by Halis Serbest. Bergen, who had a bucket of vitriol thrown at him by the attacker whom Serbest sent to Izmir for 500 thousand liras, described the moment of the incident as follows in an interview:

“At that moment, both of my eyes were gone. I only hear screams. At one point he shouted 'Take him to the water!' they say. As fate would have it, the waters were cut off. They tore my clothes and surrounded me. At that moment, everything is very dark, I can't see anything, I can't open my eyes. Shortly after, the squad car arrived. They took me to the hospital. I stayed in the hospital for 45 days and received wound treatment.

In 1983, he prepared the album "Kardeşiz Kader", containing 12 songs, with Özşeker in Izmir with a limited budget. The artist, who started to become visible with that image of her covering her eyes with her bangs, turned into an icon.

Bergen, whose name was reflected in the newspapers and became known throughout the country after the attack, decided to go on stage again after his treatment, as a result of the persuasion of casino owner Cengiz Özşeker. He performed his songs on stage at the venue owned by Özşeker until 1985.

He was stabbed by the casino photographer while he was on stage in Adana, where he went for a concert. He recovered shortly after receiving outpatient treatment.
He continued his relationship with Serbest after he was caught and sentenced to seven years in prison. After Serbest was released in 1988, he left music and cinema.
On the night of August 15, 1989, he was shot and killed by Halis Serbest in Pozantı district of Adana. Bergen was buried in the City Cemetery in Mersin, where he was born. -
Onur Erol, the well-known plastic surgeon of the period, voluntarily helped Bergen, who was seriously injured by the vitriol attack. Onur Erol described his patient's condition to a journalist on February 13, 2010:

"He said they performed surgery at least three times. Because the healing process of the tissues takes months and this type of burns happen. We peeled off Bergen's skin using the sanding method. His right eye was visible, but its lids did not close. I made an eye socket for the prosthesis to be added later. There were no nose wings, there. "Cartilages were put in. Skin was added to his face from his hip."
