Battles of the Civil War

  • Fort Sumter

    At Fort Sumter, the first shots were fired. It was a warning that the Civil War was starting very soon.

    First official battle of the civil war. This battle let the Union and Lincoln know it wasn’t going to be a short war.
  • Merrimack vs Monitor

    Was a battle on water. Two ships from the North and South shoot at each other. Bullets keep reflecting off of the ships because they were made out of stronger material. This was a turning point in naval history.
  • Antietam

    In this war Union soldiers find General Lees battle plans. They take the plans and use them for their advantage. It was the bloodiest battle in a single day. McClellan could’ve ended the war and was fired for not ending it.
  • Gettysburg

    A 3 day battle that was the bloodiest battle of the civil war. In this battle, North will hold the high ground and the South will attack. This didn’t end well for the South as the North won the battle. It was a main turning point in the war for the North. About 50,000 people died over these 3 days.
