Battles of the American Revolution

  • Lexington and Concord

    It was the first armed conflict. The British won the battle in Lexington but they were later thrashed and defeated heavily by the Patriots in Concord. 273 British and 95 Patriots were casualities.
  • Fort Ticonderoga

    Ethan Allen captured the fort by surrounding it. They were met with no resistance, the Bristish simply surrendered without fighting. The Patriots aquired canons later used in the defense of Boston and other battles.
  • Bunker Hill (Breed's Hill)

    Only battle in the long siege of Boston. It was also one of the bloodiest, with many casualities especially on the British side. The batttle is called Bunker Hill but it was fought in Breed's Hill. It is not known why it is like this, but a theory is that the Patriots confused both hills.

    Invasion of Quebec

    This was an attempt of invading Canada. However, Generals Benedict Arnold and Richard Montgomery failed in an attempt to invade Canada.
  • Dorchester Heights

    This was a Patriot victory, since they forced the British to evacuate from New England.
  • Long Island

    This was a British victory. Firstly, they made the Continental Army retreat to Manhattan, and then the Continental Army were forced to retreat again, however this time it was all the way to New Jersey.
  • Trenton

    This was a battle between the Hessian (mercenaries in the British Army) and the Continental Army. The Hessians were caught by surprise, therefore they were totally wiped out. This can be proven by the following evidence: The Colonials only had 4 casualities, while the Hessians had 900 casualities.
  • Princeton

    This battle was when the Continental Army recaptured New Jersey from the British in ten days. The British retreated to New York where they remained for the rest of the war.
  • Brandywine Creek Germantown

    This was a glorious battle for the British. They managed to beat the Continental Army and capture Philadelphia.
  • Saratoga

    In this battle Burgoyne surrenders 5,800 men. This was the turning point of the Revolution because this battle convinced the French to assist the colonies.
  • Monmouth

    In this battle the Continental Army almost captured the British, but cowardice allowed the British forces to escape from the mights of the Patriots.
  • Savannah

    This battle intiated the beginning of the British push into the Southern Colonies like Georgia.
  • Vincennes

    In this battle George Rogers Clark (from the Continental Army) captured British Forts, which proved important in negotiations with the British after the war.
  • Charleston

    The British won control over the Southern Colonies with their victory in this battle. This battle is also important because it was Continental Army's largest defeat.
  • King's Mountain

    This battle was very bloody, but the Continental Army came out on top due to their great will.
  • Yorktown

    This was the deciding victory. Cornwallis (a British General) surrendered to Washington as the French and the American forces trapped the British on the Peninsula.
