    He graduated Fromt the Academy. He later taught tactitcs for Four years. The majority of the Generals he taught he would later face on the Battle Field. He also won a Brevet for serving well in the Mexican/American War.

    After teaching tactics he later spent some time in Washington D.C where he made friends with the secertary of the Treasury. This helped Mcdowell become a General of the Army of Northeastern Virginia, He was also appointed be Abe Lincon.

    The formation was authorized by the United Stated Secertary of War.It consisted of 63rd New York Infantry, the 69th New York Infantry, and the 88th New York Infantry. The majority of them were Obviously irish. they had a Famous battle cry "faugh a Ballagh".

    Problems began from the Very begining. The Army of Northeastern Virginia, was not prepared like they should have. People also had high expectation of McDowell. Plus this was Mcdowell very first battle so he was very nervous. His army fell apart. Up to that point this was the bloodiest battle ever. Mcdowell was blames for everything.

    The regiment was under the cammand of William T. Sherman. This battle was truely a test of how well prepared this Brigade was. During this time the brigade really did show thier true colors. As they went in for attack they stood thier ground. And fought passoinatly. Afterwards they retreaded slowly without panic.
