    Nathaniel Bacon is born on January 2, 1647 in Suffolk, England. This is the start of Bacon's Revolution,
  • Nathaniel Bacon arrived at Vriginia

    In 1674, Nathaniel Bacon shows up to Virginia by boat. This is important because he is now able to spread his rebellious ideas.
  • Burning of Jamestown

    On September 19, 1676, Nathanial Bacon got furious and decided to burn the city of Jamestown to the ground. This is important because it shows the violent side of Bacon and why their town is burnt to the ground.
  • Nathaniel Bacon Dies

    Nathaniel Bacon becomes ill and dies due to dysentery in Virginia. This is important because the figure for this rebellion is now dead.

    French and Indian War

    The French and Indian war (commonly known as the seven years' war). In America, Britain and France were fighting over who owned the land, and a resolution was drawn at the end where the French lost a lot of lands but Britain lost a lot of money fighting. Britain decided to start taxing the colonists to pay back the debt.
  • Stamp Act was passed

    On March 25, 1765, the stamp act was passed for Britain colonists in America where every document would be taxed with stamps. This was a very broken tax and just made the colonists even madder. This is important because it shows the desperate situation Britain was in to pay back its debt.
  • Boston Massacre

    On March 5, 1770 The red coats from the British army fired live rounds into colonial citizens. This is considered to be the start of the American Revolution and is important because the British started to shoot colonials.
  • Bloody Massacre was published

    Paul revere's "Bloody Massacre" was published on March 5, 1770. This colonial propaganda showed what happened the night before, where British soldiers fired on the colonial people. This is important because it is the spark of the American revolution, and only adds to the anger of the colonists.
  • Coercive Acts Introduced

    In 1773, coercive acts were introduced and the British had a more powerful role in colonial America. With the act passed, Colonists were forced to quarter British soldiers, banned town political meetings, and had all major political titles be appointed by Britain. This has a major impact on the colonists as they are treated now more like prisoners than people.
  • Tea Act

    On April 27, 1773 the Tea act was passed. This tax would make it so American colonists could only buy from the East India Trading Company, giving the company a monopoly. This is important because Colonists were not free on where they could buy their tea
  • The Bostonian’s Paying the Excise-man was published

    Philip Dawe's "The Bostonian's Paying the Excise-man" was published in British, loyalist papers. The acts depicted in the art show the British tax collector being bullied by the colonists. Compared to Revere's "The Bloody Massacre" Dawe's work appeals to the British. This is important because it adds to the tension between patriots and loyalists.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concrod

    During April 1775, American colonists and British soldiers started to fight with each other. Paul Revere and William Dowes went up and down the American coast yelling that the British were coming. British troops arrived and became in a conflict with American minutemen, but they had to retreat whilst being harassed by the Americans.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    The Battle of bunker hill was an American victory and helped boost American confidence. Being a small militia versus the largest army in the world at that time, defeating the British was a big moral boost.
  • Paine's Common Sense Published

    Paine's "Common Sense" is published on January 10, 1776, and is about the idea of America separating from Britain. In 1776, tensions between the British and the Americans were growing incredibly. The British introduced many laws to the colonists after the Boston tea party incident. Some of Paine's ideas will eventually make it into the declaration of independence, making "Common Sense" an important book for America.
  • Declaration of Independence published

    Jefferson et. all "Declaration of Independence" was published on July 4th, 2776, and is considered the birth of America. After having enough of British law and taxes, the founding fathers of America decided to become its own country and published the declaration stating it will be free from Britain and how its government will work. This is very important because it is when America was born.
  • Battle of Tenton

    On October 1776, George Washington and his army crossed the Delaware river and went into the battle of Trenton. George decided to do a winter attack on the British, and fought them in a guerilla warfare style. Eventually, Washington's army won and they proceeded north.
  • French Alliance made

    On February 2nd, America signed a treaty with France, making them the first alliance with America. Being an enemy to Britain, anything to help defeat them would be helpful for the French. This is why the French were supplying the Americans during the Battle of Saratoga, and aided in defeating the British.
  • Articles of the confederation written

    On November 15, 1788 the Articles of the Confederation were written. Needing a government, the United States first drafted the articles of confederation which gave lots of rights to the states and barely any for the federal government. This is significant because its one of the main causes of Shays rebellion and it made a hard time in the US.
  • John Paul Jones Attacks British Merchants

    In September 1779, John Paul Jones encounter British ships and fight them until he wins. America sent out letters of marque, meaning American could attack private British ships in order to hurt their economy. A very famous example is John Paul Jones, who made such havoc for the British merchants.
  • Battle of Kings Mountain

    On October 7, 1780 the British became at war with America in the south. Previously winning the Battle of Camden, British troops stormed in the Carolina backcountry, but went to far and got defeated in the Appellation Mountains. This is significant because it shows that the Americans were able to defend onto only the New England Colonies but the south as well at a minute's notice.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    In September 21, 1781, the British got surrounded by the Americans after they fled to Yorktown. The Americans started to bombarded the city when they surrendered, leading to an American victory. This is significant because it shows that the American Army was powerful, and they can make a British army surrender.
  • Treaty of Paris

    On September 3, 1783 the Treaty of Paris was signed. In the treaty, Britain had to recognized America as an independent country, give up lots of land to Spain and the US, and be in more debt. this is significant because it signifies the end of the American war.
  • Last British troops leave New York City

    On November 25, 1783 the last of British troops left New York treaty after the treaty of Paris was signed. This is significant because it was the first time America had new British troops, meaning America didn't have to deal with the British anymore.
  • Shays Rebellion

    On August 29, 1786 Shay and other men gathered and rebelled on the new United States. After America was formed, the people were still not happy from high taxes and poor economic conditions imposed by the Americans, so they rebelled. Shay and his men attacked courthouses and other public places demanding for less taxes using violence. Eventually, it came to an end but it showed that America needs to remake their constitution.

    Constitutional Convention

    From May 25, 1787 to September 17, 1787 high figures from the United States were brought and made a new, centralized government. Compared to the articles of the confederation, the constitution gave the government more rights but still allowed the states to be free. A lot of comprises were made, as some people preferred the Virginia plan and others preferred the New Jersey plan, so the people needed a settlement.

    On September 17, 1787 the US Constitution was signed. After almost half a year meeting and debating about the government, most delegates finally agreed on the draft and the constitution was signed. Some did not sign because this did not like the bill of rights, but it still became the law. This is significant because the US just flipped from a very decentralized government to a centralized government that gives states rights, and the US can finally repay their debt.

    As tensions rose between France and the Rebels, America declared tat it would be neutral with the situation and trade wit both equally. This is significant because it showed America didn't want to go to war, and wanted to profit off of both countries.

    First Barbary War

    America never wanted to pay Pirates ransom to other countries, so they came into Tripoli in order rot stop it. Compared to isolating themselves, America intervened on a situation which shows it foreign influence, making it significant.
  • Election of 1800

    After John Adams enacted the alien and sedation acts, his popularly fell to the point where Thomas Jefferson fell in favor. This was the first time a new President has been elected before presidential term limits. John Adams did not put a fight, and instead packed his things and went home. This is significant because it shows a new way for leaders to act, as John Adams did not put a fight once he lost.

    On April 30. 1803 The French gave America lots of new land. Being broke, Napoleon wanted extra cash and decided to offer the Louisiana area for 15 million dollars. Thomas Jefferson bought the land, doubling the size of America. IT was controversial however because of slave state debates and Native Americans.

    Lewis and Clark Expedition

    After the US bought the new land, Merriweather Lewis and William Clark were assigned by the government to explore the land acquired by the French, spread American influence. , and find a way to connect the two lands together. This is significant because Lewis and Clark would be the first Americans to layout and discover uncharted territory.
  • Embargo of 1807

    As tensions rose between America and Europe, all out war was imminent. To diffuse the situation, Jefferson passed (with congress) the embargo act of 1787 which would halt all trade between American and Europe. The isolationist act would just hurt America however, and was repealed 2 year later. This is significant because it showed that America at first did not want anything to do with Europe, but then they got entangled with the war of 1812.

    War of 1812

    To protect American Honor and sea merchants, the Americans declared war on Britain. After a couple of inversions and battles however, the treaty to Ghent was signed, and no country was rewarded with more land. However, America increased nationalism and the sea economy exploded. This is significant because it was one of the first wars after the revolutionary war, and tested America's army.
  • Andrew Jackson elected president

    On Tuesday, December 2, 1828, Andrew Jackson was elected president. Andrew Jackson made very controversial moves for Indians and the economy, making him one of the most debated presidents in history.
  • Indian Removal Act Declared a Law

    On May 28, 1830 Andrew Jackson and Congress signed the Indian Removal Act which forced Indians to move to the Oklahoma area. In order to colonize west, Andrew Jackson needed to remove the Indians in American territory. The Indian Removal Act gave the US army power to move and afterwards the Trail of Tears was born. This is significant because thousands of Indians were forced to relocate to a different area.
  • Panic of 1837

    In 1837, Andrew's Jackson's economic policy caused an economic collapse. Without a central bank to regulate the economy, the 'bubble' finally burst and the economy went downhill. This is significant because it put Andrew Jackson at fault, and was a recession for the United States
  • Fredick's Douglass Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass published

    On May 1, 1845 Fredrick's Douglass Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass published. Being a slave, Fredrick Douglass had first hand account of the horrendous life in the south. His book, when published influenced many readers to be opposed to slavery. This is significant because this was one of the sparks of the civil war.
  • Wilmot Proviso

    The Wilmot Proviso was an unsuccessful proposal that would have ended slavery in the territories gained from the Mexican-American war. Wilmot Proviso wanted this bill to passed in 1846, but the south was infuriated that they would be outnumbered. To keep the union together, the Legislative branch vetoed the bill, but this even if unsuccessful this bill caused tensions between the two sides.
  • The free soil party emerges

    AS debates over slavery because more popular, a new party emerged in 1848 called the free soil party. <Morally, the free soil party believed slavery is bad because it is inhumane. The free soil party would advocate for laws that banned slavery and added to the tension between the north and the south
  • The Great Debate Begins

    The great debate was question about whether or not California should because a slave state or a free state. California both south and north of the Missouri compromise line, meaning it would be both. Eventually, California voted whether to be a free or slave state, and it was decided to be a free state. California's decision to be a free state disbalanced the delicate slave/free states and would set off a series of protests.
  • South carolina secceds from the union

    On Dec 20, 1860, South Carolina formally announces that it was succeed from the union. Being a slave state, South Carolina wanted to be free and not have restriction on slavery, so it decided to split from the US. The South Carolina Succession is the spark of the civil war.
  • Farragut Seizes New Orleans

    In Feb 1862, Farragut and the Union army sailed along Atlantic ocean and took control of New Orleans, Louisiana. This is significant because it the first ste4p to sever the Confederate count
  • The Emaciation Proclamation

    On sept 22, 1862 President Lincoln announced that free black men could enlist in the army. This is significant because it changed the focus of the civil war from preserving the union to ending slavery in the United States, and discouraged enemies of the Untied States from joining the confederates.
  • The Battle of Gettysburg

    In July 1863 The battle of Gettysburg took place. Being the bloodiest battle of the civil war. The battle of Gettysburg was the turning point for the union army. This is significant because it started the fall of the confederate states of America.
  • Assassination of Lincoln

    On April 15, 1865 President Lincoln was assassinated by John Booth. Shortly after the war, Lincoln went out to a play where he was assassinated. This is significant because an important figure and president was now dead.
  • Battle of Bighorn

    In November of 1868 Cuter and his army were surprised-attacked by the Sioux and Dakota Native American tribes. This is significant because it was one of the greatest rebellions, and showed the Americans had to fight for American land.
  • Transcontinental Railroad completed

    On May 29, 1868 the transcontinental railroad was completed, linking the east to the west with a high-speed system. Before railroads were completed, the only way to transfer goods and people was through wagons and horses, but with a track laid down a lot more material could go through. This is significant because the transcontinental railroad fueled the development of the west.

    From 1870 to 1914, American industry expanded and industrialized so that more of America exported goods and became an economic superpower. This industrialization was fueled by the invention of oil, and the other technologies that helped boost the economy. This is significant because it was a time where America’s economy soared and being connected with the world, changed the way an average American lived.

    As the American Economy progresses, the idea of being a superpower came and America's influence spread everywhere. From being isolated from the rest of the world to being entangled with European nations, American imperialism spread everywhere
  • Nat turner Rebellion

    A famous slave revolt is Nat Turner, who violently tried to get freedom. Beginning in February 1881, Nat Turner and his people revolted violently with weapons, but was recaptures 6 weeks later. This is significant because it showed that slave owner didn't have total control over it's people, because they could revolt.
  • Muskogee Resistance

    Throughout Early America, Native American communities were attacked and defeated from violent militiamen and the US government. One example is the Muskogee Resistance where Georgia Militiamen looted and killed Muskogee towns. This is significant because it showed America didn't really care about the Native Americans, and wanted to colonize west.
  • Hawaii Annexed

    On January 17, 1893 Hawaii was annexed after the Hawainn goverment was overthrown. Hawaii was
    a major source of improts for the UNited States, and Americans wanted to show their imperialism.

    To show that, some US officials overthrew the goverment, claiming Hawaii as part of the US.
  • Rebellion and capture in the Philippines.

    In March of 1901, American soldiers landed in the Philippines in Aguinalde to fight the insurgencies. Americans also called for a different goverment after the insurgency. Overall, the American landings showed American imperialism and influence world politics.
  • Platt Amendment

    The Platt Amendment was a deal between the United states and Cuba during that made Cuba independent but had to dispute actions between the US. With the Platt
    amendment, Cuba could not trade with any other nation and naval stations were mandatory
    in Cuba.
  • Franz Ferdinand is killed

    In late June of 1914, Franz Ferdinand was assassinated by a Bosnian revolutionary Gavrilo Princip. This event is significant because it is considered to be the starting act of WW1.
  • America Enters the war

    April 6, 1917, America declared it would enter the war with the allies. America at first was determined to stay out of the war, but America decided to help Britain and fight the war. This is significant because a new superpower would enter and help an allied victory.
  • Nation War Bonds Established in the United States

    In March of 1918 war bonds were introduced to the US to help win the war. War is expensive, and for the United States they wanted to fund it, so they introduced war bonds. This is significant because it helped the United States economy and prevented strikes from happening.

    Throughout the 1920s, the Midwest's landscape would get destroyed by dust bowls that would run through due to the overuse of farmland and a severe drought. The dust bowls were significant because they weakened the US economy and caused many Americans to suffer along with the depression

    In late 1929, the stock market plummeted due to significant overproduction and other reasons. This is significant because it destroyed the American economy and resulted in poverty for many Americans.
  • Hawley-Smoot Tariff

    In 1929, the Hawley-Smoot Tariff was passed, making tariffs to other countries more expensive, resulting in fewer trades between foreign nations. This is significant because it significantly weakened the American economy.
  • Germany Invades Poland, Starting WW2

    On September 1, 1939, Nazi Germany invaded Poland, starting WW2. Poland resisted the German army but was defeated on October 5, 1939. This is significant to the US because WW2 would become a big deal for the US.
  • Lend Lease Act

    In December of 1940, Britain and the US had established the lend-lease act to help fight the war. America did not immediately want to get involved, but helped supply Britain with weapons and other equipment. In June of 1941, the lend lease act was tied into the Soviet Union as well. In this way, America could help the war without sending troops over.
  • Atlantic Charter

    On August 14, 1941 the Atlanic Charter was issued that provided a way to reconstruct the world with ‘rules. WW2 destroyed the world, and Britain and the US wanted to reconstruct as easily as possible. The Atlantic Charter was drafted that established rules for trading and repression for axis powers. This is significant because it showed American interventionism and helped boost the world economy.
  • America Enters the War

    After careful consideration, FDR and congress decide to enter the war on December 7, 1941, with the allies, in order to stop the spread of fascism. Nazi Germany was spreading throughout Europe, and Japan was taking over the Pacific islands. With enemies getting larger and larger, and Japan attacking Hawaii, America decided to enter the war to stop the spread. This is significant because it puts America into wartime production/lifestyle.
  • Germany Declares War on US

    On December 22, 1941. Germany declared war on the US after the US declared war on Japan. Germany was an axis power, meaning it was an enemy to the US. The US was also fighting Japan, an axis power. Germany underestimated the US power, and declared war on the US but lost from the allies.
  • Truman doctorine

    The Truman Doctrine was a letter from the US declaring that Greek was in threat of communism, starting the cold war. The US and Soviet Union weren't exactly enemies after WW2, but did not like each other. However, after the Truman Doctrine the US and the Soviet Union were officially enemies with nuclear weapons.
  • Brown V Board

    In1954, the Supreme Court ruled that public schools cannot be segregated, marking one of the first steps to have a desegregated America. African American schools had disadvantages and had less funding compared to other schools, so having no racial segregation for schools meant African Americans could be a better education.

    The Vietnam war was a conflict in Vietnam against North (communist) and south (capitalist) Vietnam. With American involvement, many lost their lives and was a big defeat for America. This is significant because America lost lives and started the hippie revolution.
  • Berlin Wall is Created

    On August 13, 1961 East Germany built a wall to trap it's citizens in Berlin. Not only did this act worsen relations between the US and the Soviet Union, but it separated many.
  • Silent Spring is published

    On September 27, 1962 Rachel Carson’s, Silent Spring was published to the world as a wake up call that we need to protect the environment. This book is significant because it was one of the first steps to an environmentally conscious America.
  • Johnson makes his Great Society Speech

    In may of 1964, Johnson made a speech in the University of Michigan about his American dream. Congress agreed with Johnson, and started to plan a way to eliminate racism and poverty. This is significant because Johnson’s plan would change the nation.
  • Johnson Singe the Civil Rights Acts

    As racism became less favorable, Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 with prohibited racism in publish places. This was a huge milestone for African Americans, who had been suffering through the Jim Crows laws. This is significant because it was the right step towards a freer United States.
  • Clean Air Act

    In 1970, congress assed the clean air act which would set national air quality standards and reduce premature deaths due to toxic chemicals on the air. As cars became more popular, more engines means the atmosphere would get more polluted. Catalytic converters and other pollution-reducing technologies were invented however, that could help the environment. This act is significant because it created a batter environment and showed a environmentally-protect side of America.
  • The EPA is formed

    On December 2, 1970 the EPA was formed to protect the the environment and human health. President Nixon signed the bill that would form the epa, which would lead to different restriction of toxic chemicals that would make America a better place.
  • Watergate Scandal

    On June 17, 1972, it was discovered that the Nixon administration was trying to hide a burglary of documents from the Watergate Hotel. The Burglary was for information on the democratic party, (DNC was located at Watergate), and after being uncovered the administration tried everything it can to cover its tracks. The Watergate scandal made the American people lose trust in the US government and took a while to recover from.
  • Nixon announces plan to withdrawal troops

    As his popularity was declining, Nixon announced plans to move out of Vietnam to end the suffering of Americans. A plan called “Vietnamization” was put in place to arm and better equip South Vietnam to fight the Communist North. This plan is significant because this was one of the first steps to bring peace to American Soldiers.
  • The Energy Crisis

    In around 1975 the American Energy industry collapsed during the beginning of the Iranian revolution. America relied on Iran for oil, and after the government was overthrown less oil was exported, causing an oil crisis. This is significant because it showed how much America relied on oil imports and caused an economic crisis.

    From August 2, 1990, to January 17, 1991, the United States and other allied countries defended Kuwait in response to the Iraq invasion. In order to protect its oil source, the United States sent troops into Kuwait and weaken Iraq and it's monopoly on oil.
  • Dissolution of the Soviet Union

    On December 26, 1991, the Soviet Union was dissolved, meaning the United State's biggest enemy was gone. After fierce protests and government mistakes, Gorbachev announced that the Soviet Union would no longer exist and Russia and other countries would replace its power. This event was significant because it was the end of the cold war.
  • September 11 Attacks

    The September 11 attacks were a series of hijackings from the terrorist group Al Qaeda and cause many deaths within America. Al Qaeda hijacks a total of four planes, and two hit the twin towers located in New York City, one at the Pentagon, and one crashed in a field in Pennsylvania after civilians took control. The September 11 attacks led to America's war on terrorism, and increased security within its borders.
