The ovaries drop an ova into the fallopian tube, this is called ovulation. The sperm comes and fertilizes the ova which is called conception. The ova is about 1/3 of the way down the fallopian tube when conception happens.

The fertilized ova is now a zygote {for the first three weeks}. It is a fourth of an inch long, it has a heartbeat, and it starts to pump blood.

The zygote is now a embryo. The embryo is 5/8" long. Most of the vital organs are developed. The eyelids are forming. The brain is still developing.

The embryo is now 3 inches long. It ways 1/2oz. You can hear a heartbeat now. All organs including, kidneys are functioning. The eye lids are formed and sealed shut. End of trimester one.

This is the beginning of trimester two. The embryo is now considered as a fetus. It is 4"-6" long. It weighs around 4oz. Muscles are developed and fetus starts to move. Skin is pink and transparent. The umbilical cord and the placenta are working properly and are the main source of nutrients for the fetus while inside the womb.

The fetus is 8"-12" long. It weighs around 8oz. It can sleep and wakeup at regular intervals. The fetus moves a lot. Fast movement.

The fetus now weighs around 1-1/2lbs. Eyes are fully developed but not open. The fetus can hear outside noises and recognize mom's voice. Finger prints are formed! Taste buds start to form.

This is the beginning of the third trimester. The fetus is now about 15 inches long. Weighs around 21/2-3lbs. It can cry. Opens eyes and sucks thumb. It can grasp things, and can also swim.

The fetus will gain 2-3lbs. Shed lanugo. Head moves to downward position. Can move and change it's positions. Lungs finish developing, brain growth development continues.

Fetus is 14-15 inches long. It's gaining 1/2lbs. a week. Weighs around 6-8lbs. Acquires antibodies from mother. Fetus moves and rests till birth.
