    World War I Started
    World War I started with the assassination of Austria's Archduke Franz Ferdinand. The war engulfed all of Europe with the envolvement of many other countries. The war resulted in 10 million military deaths and 20 million wounded.
  • World War I Ended

    World War I Ended
    The armistice was signed on the 31st of October 1918. This armistice was created in the Versai Palace, where a great many of important people sat down and decided the terms that Germany would have to agree to.

    Hitler started to gain power from this date as after the Treaty of Versaille was signed Hitler promised to overun the French and return what was taken from the Germans. His support continued to grow during the Great Depression as there were many people out of a job.

    Stocks Crash in New York and a time of hardship begins. Many people lost their jobs and were unable to afford food. There was also a great many diseases going around at this time as no one could afford to pay for medicine.

    Hitler wins the election and finally become chancellor of Germany. This is after many years of gradually gaining the support of the people throughout the duration of The Great Depression when the people lost faith in their political party in power at the time.

    World War II begins when the German army bombed Poland. Other countries felt that they needed to help Poland and then others Germany. This created the second World War.

    The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour for two hours. This was a major U.S. naval base. The bombing of the harbour led to the U.S. joining the war and helping the allies win the war.

    Battle of Singapore Ended
    The Battle of Singapore lasted from the 31st of January 1939 to the 15th of February 1942. There were a great deal of casualties in this battle.

    The Darwin Bombing was the first and last foreign attack on Australia. The attack began just before 10am and lasted for 20-25 minutes
  • Kokoda Campaign Starts

    Kokoda Campaign Starts
    The Kokoda Campaign was the 39th Battalion of the Australian Ifantry fighting on the track known as the Kokoda Track to prevent Japanese soldiers from invading Port Morseby which was the main Australian base in New Gineau. Overall about 600 Australian soldiers were killed and a further 1680 were wounded.

    The Cold War was a war just after World War II finished between the USA and the USSR. The war started because of a difference of political beliefs. There was a dispute over whether the choices that needed to be made globally should be made by the USA (a capitalist country) or the USSR (a communist country).

    Mao Zendog Introduces Communism
    Mao Zendog introduced the idea of communism to China and came into power in 1949. This changed the way that the Chinese lived.
  • Martin Luther King's Speech

    Martin Luther King's Speech
    Martin Luther delivered his most memorable and powerful speech "I Have a Dream" on the 28th of August 1963. This speech spoke of the dream Martin Luther King had that one day everyone might be equal. He didn't think that race or class should divide society. He believe that everyone has a right to be free and to be able to do whatever jobs they desire. He was later assasinated on the 4th of April 1968 by people who did not support his beliefs.

    Australian Soliders Pulled Out of Vietnam War
    The Vietnam War was the longest in duration of any war fought by Australians. The war started in August 1962 and continued until the 11th of January 1975.Almost 60,000 Australians served in Vietnam and of that 60,000, 512 died and 3,000 were wounded.The war was about South Vietnam trying to stop North Vietnam from enforcing communism on the country. Australia and later the US came to the aid of South Vietnam.
  • 9/11 Attacks

    9/11 Attacks
    In 2001 there were 4 planes hijacked by an extremist Islamic group of terrrorists. Two of the planes were crashed into the Twin Towers, one into the Pentagon and one into a field in Pennsylvania. All up there were abuot 3,000 people lost and about 400 police officers and fire fighters. The collapse of the Twin Towers also caused another one of the World Trade building to catch on fire and the building collapsed. Luckily someone had ordered this building evacuated earlier during the day.
  • Bali Bombings

    Bali Bombings
    The Bali Bombings consisted of two attacks. The more significant on the 12th of October 2002. The first attack resulted in 202 people dead and a further 240 peple were injured. The target of this attack were two nightclubs with Western clientele and the US Consular office. The attack involved one bomb in the backpack of a suicide bomber, another was a large car bomb and a smaller bomb in the US Consulate that only caused minor damage. From both of teh attacks 92 Australians were killed.
  • Fall of Baghdad

    Fall of Baghdad
    The US invaded Baghdad on the 3rd of April. By the 12th of April to US had won. Baghdad suffered many damages to civillian infrastructure, economy and cultural inheritence from the bombings and the invasion. A great deal of Iraqi soldiers were lost (several thousand), while only a small number of the US army were lost.
  • Osama bin Laden Killed

    Osama bin Laden Killed
    Osama Bin Laden was killed by the US Special Forces in an early moring raid in Abbottabad Pakistan. Osama bin Laden was the leader of a major terrorist group called al-Qaida. This group was responsible for many deadly terrorist attacks including the 9/11 bombings. Osama bin Laden had been on the FBI's most watned list for more than a decade before he was killed.
  • MH 17 Shot Down

    MH 17 Shot Down
    MH 17 was shot down by Ukraine rebels on the 17th of July. This was just one of the many results of the current war in Ukraine. There are rebells who want to be a part of Russia which is what the war is about. The downing of flight MH 17 resulted in 298 deaths. They are yet to find all of the bodies of everyone that was lost.

    Conflict Between Gaza and Israel- 24 hour Ceasefire
    Israel and Gaza have a truce for 24 hours until midnight on the 27th of July 2014. The war in Gaza is a dispute of religion and land. The war has been going on since July 2006. They are currently trying to negotioate for a permanent truce, however so far that has not happened.
