Born January 19, 1798 in Montpellier, France to Louis and Rosalie Comte. He attended University of Montpellier and Ecole polytechnic. Around 1816 he taught mathematics and journalism in Paris.

Living in a turbulent period in European history, he sought understand society and develope a system by which we could make order out of the chaos. Eureka! He finally developed what he called " system of positive philosophy " a system that could better help us to understand human relationships and actions in the same way the scientific method allowed us to understand science in the natural world.

Comte had strong belief a secular religion could solve humanity's problems. In this new religion, mankind will be venerated but not God. He had a full system of belief and rituals, with liturgy and sacrament, priesthood and pontiff, all organized for public veneration of humanity, he called the New Supreme Being.
