    SECTION 504 OF THE REHABILITATION ACT
    Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act protects any student who has a disability that prevents him or her to perform daily activities which can include eating, sleeping and walking as well as learning, concentrating, thinking and communicating. According to Henley, M., Ramsey, R. S., & Algozzine, R. (2009) Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act has two main purposes and that is to eliminate discrimination and provide a free and appropriate public education for people with disabilities.

    Throughout the years laws have been passes to protect and support students as well as adults against any discrimination. Providing appropriate and free public education and with accommodations so that students with disabilities receive the same education as their peers.

    The Americans with Disabilities Act was passed by congress in 1990. According to Henley, M., Ramsey, R. S., & Algozzine, R. (2009)This act was the first one to followed the civil rights law that addressed the needs of people with disabilities. This act allowed public accommodations and telecommunications to people with disabilities as well prohibited any discrimination in employment and public services. People who are discriminated against because of their disabilities may file a claim.

    According to Henley, M., Ramsey, R. S., & Algozzine, R. (2009)The No Child Left Behind Act was establish to provide fair and equal education to all students. It was design so that their is no achievement gap in students. The schools should provide accountability, flexibility, research- based education, parent options to obtain the best education. No Child Left Behind Act requires state to give standardize test in Math and reading to students from 3rd- 12th grade.
