    Before The War
    In 1910 James joined the Port Huron National Gaurd at the age of 16. He joined activities to prepare him for war in case there was a war that broke out.
  • The Inccident

    The Inccident
    During the war James slipped while getting out of a trench.It was muddy and he fell backward onto his rifle that cracked two vertebrae on his spinal column. And while he was injured he was so proud of his troop that he didn't want to leave them and stayed with them and did't paper work.

    More Injuries and Sickness
    During the war James got a tonsil infection and was relieved from The Battle of Argon 18th Infantry. Also he got a hemorrhage of lungs near Toulane, France. He bleed for eleven hours.

    Back to War
    After he recovered from the tonsil infection he had to return to the Argon front for the second time. Days later he faced Sadan on the side hill across the river. James got to hear the last shots of the battle.

     James Frederick Campbell
    Between 1914 and 1918 James was in the eighteenth infantry, first division. The location he servedwas in France and Germany, and he was a Priviate First Class.
  • Getting Closer

    Getting Closer
    They marched toward the German lines. Eleven days later he had to gaurd a bridge with German's on the other side. On December first they crossed the Grievenmocker Bridge st 7;30 a.m. and followed the German army day by day.
  • Finally

    James was sighted for bravery by Gen Lassimo Henri Petain. On August 1, 1919 they left Germany to go home.
  • Sailed to France

    Sailed to France
    After the war he arrived in Brest, France from Germany. Then he sailed back home to America on August 6, 1919. James was discharged at Camp Sherman Chillicothe Ohio on the 23 of August.
  • Life After War

    Life After War
    Elsie Wollen and James Campbell got married in 1924. Also James had six childern. A house fire destroyed their home and all his medals and uniforms were destroyed.
