    Black Land Act/Native Land Act of 1913
    This act was placed in order to limit the amount of land the blacks, natives, of the area where able to buy. It only allowed for "7% of arable land" to the blacks while leaving the better land for the whites.
  • Black Administrative Act No. 38

    Black Administrative Act No. 38
    This provided that whenever it was deemed "beneficial" to the public or the environment, it could order any black person to move from one place to another within South Africa.
  • Development of Trust and Land Act No 18

    Development of Trust and Land Act No 18
    This act expanded the reserves to a total of 13. 6% of the land in South Africa and authorized the Department of Bantu Administration and Development to eliminate 'black spots'. The South African Development trust was established and could acquire land in each of the provinces for black settlement.

    This restricted and regulated the time of arrival of certain aliens in the Union and regulated the right of any person to assume a surname.

    This prohibited the acquisition of land in urban areas by blacks from non-blacks except with the Governor-General's consent

    This act introduced influx control - which was applicable to black males only. The people who were deemed to be leading idle or dissolute lives or who had committed certain specified offences could be removed from an urban area.

    This act prohibited marriages between whites and members of other racial groups.

    This act extended the 1927 Immorality Act to all black people - including coloureds and Asians.
  • Black (Native) Laws Amendment Act No. 54

    Black (Native) Laws Amendment Act No. 54
    This was a new section that was implemented onto Section 29 of the 1945 Urban Areas Consolidation Act which allowed for 'the removal of an African from an urban area...where his presence was detrimental to the maintenance of peace and order in any such area.' This was added 'to confer upon local authorities arbitrary powers to rid themselves of "agitators."

    This act was passed in response to the ANC's civil disobedience campaign, provided for a state of emergency to be declared. Under a state of emergency the Minister of Law and Order, the Commissioner of the South African Police, a magistrate or a commissioned officer could detain any person for reasons of public safety.

    This act prohibited gatherings in open-air public places if the Minister of Justice considered that they could endanger the public peace. Also included banishment as a form of punishment.

    This act consolidated the law relating to the establishment of group areas and the control of the acquisition of immovable property in those areas.

    This act allowed for the first provision for black 'self-government' in the urban townships.
