  • American Revolution

    The American Revolution stared with the thirteen colonies of America wanting independence from Great Britian. The colonists fought for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness aginst Britian's king, King George the Third.
  • Washington's Farewell Address

    After the first president, George Washington, finished his term, he warned his fellow congressmen to steer clear of the party system and an over-bearing military. He also warned them not to create permanent foregin allicanes.
  • Barbary Wars

    The Barbary Wars, taken place in Libya, was the first war outside of American boundries that this young, independent nation began. Tripolian pirates demanded money from President Jefferson, but he refused, which lead to years of fighting with north African countries.
  • Embargo Act

    This law restricted America from trading with foreign countries; they hoped this would stop fueding between Britian and France, but it didn't. It hurt American's and was repealed by 1809.
  • War of 1812

    Although America tried to not get involved in Britian and France's agruments, they ended up making an enemy, Britiain. They fought for two years and endeed up signing a peace treaty.
  • Monroe Doctorine

    The Monroe Doctorine was given during the Napoleonic Wars, when many Americans feared that monarchy could come back to their country due to the way things were playing out in Europe. The Monroe Doctorine encouraged the public to support newly independant Latin American countries from falling into Europe's influence.
  • Manifest Densttiny

    Manifest Destiny was the inspired citizens of America feeling the need to expand their country and go west with the hope to explore uncharted territories. with this sense of pride came a sense of entitlement, which boxed out Native Americans and Mexican, making them feel lesser.
  • U.S. Mexican War

    Tension grew between Mexico and the United States due to unagreement over borders. The United States defeated Mexico and recieved most of California, New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas.
  • Annexation of Hawaii

    In 1892, Hawaii was a monarchy until the U.S. Senate sent a treaty propsing annexation of Hawaii. The U.S. need a mid-pacific fueling location and Hawaii was ideal. Hawaii became a state in 1959.
  • Spanish- Cuban- American War

    Spain and America started fighting over who should own Cuba. Although America signed a treaty syaing that once the war was over, they would make Cuba independent, they still managed to make enemies with not only Spain, but Cubans. At the end of the day, Cuba was liberated and the United States ended up with the Philippins, Puerto Rico, and Guam.
  • Roosevelt Corollary

    The Roosevelt Corollary reaffirmed the principles of the Monroe Doctorine as well as set the notion that the United States will protect Latin America.
  • World War I

    World War I, known as the trench war, was many nations such as France, Britian, Russia, the United States, etc. against Germany and Japan. Germany was upset that Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary was assassinated, so they started war which lead to a whole world's involvement.
  • World War II

    After Germany lost World War II, they felt undemined and disrespected by the Treaty of Versailles, the treaty that ended the first world war. Germany's chancellor, Adolf Hitler wanted respect and wanted Germany to be great again, which started another war that Germany lost five years later.
  • The Cold War

    The Cold War start shortly after World War II. It was a non-violent war mainly between the Soviet Union and the United States. Both countries were suspicous that the opposing had developed nuclear bombs.
  • Truman Doctrine

    In this sppech, Truman tried to convince Greeks and Turkish to not be swayed by Soviet Communism.Truman pushed the States to help east Europe in the fear that they would turn communist.
  • Marshall Plan

    The Marshall Plan called for a chaneling of $13 billion for European economy. The Soviet's didn't want anything to do with the Marshall plan and they prevented Poland and Czechoslovakia from taking part.
  • The Vietnam War

  • Detente

    A time in the 70's when tensions in the Cold War lightened between the Soviet Union and the United Staes. Nixon took several trips to visit Brezhnev, Soviet's leader.
  • Carter's emphasis on foregin policy

    Carter believed that the United States foreign policy should reflect good morals. He refused to let the United States ignore human rights.
  • 9/11 Attacks

    On September 11th, members of terrorist group, Al-Qaeda high-jacked several airplanes. One fllew into the Twin Towers, killing thousands, the other was headed for Washington D.C., but crashed in a field in Pennsylvania, never making it to D.C.
  • War in Iraq/ Afghanistan

    After 9/11, President Bush sent troops to retrieve the terrorist that flew into the Twin Towers. Seven years later with some new leadership, Bin Laden, leader of Al-Qaeda was found and shot. Troops have started pulling out of the Middle East, despite the calculation that Iraq will collapse under itself when the United States leaves.
