    In Munich, West Germany, the Black September group were responsible for taking hostage of the Israeli Olympic Team. Their motive was the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and was the birth of modern terrorism. In total there were 17 deaths.
  • Ma’a lot Massacre

    Ma’a lot Massacre
    In Ma’alot, Israel, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine group were responsible for a hostage taking and school shooting in which 31 died and 70 injured.
  • Gulf Air Flight 771

    In mid flight between the Abu Dhabi International Airport and Karachi, Pakistan the Abu Nidal organization planted a bomb in the baggage compartment of a Boeing 737-2P6, killing 112 people. They did this to convince Saudi Arabia to pay protection money to Nidal so as to avoid attacks on their soil.

    In mid flight between London Heathrow Airport to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, Libya bombed a Boeing 747–121 killing 270 people. Their motives were that Libya had a series of military confrontations with the US Navy that took place in the 1980s in the Gulf of Sidra.

    In New York City, Arlington County, Virginia; and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, Al-Qaeda took responsibility for aircraft hijacking. Al-Qaeda’s leader Osama bin Laden's motives were to declare a holy war against the United States, calling for the killing of all American civilians. A plane each were flown into the North and South World Trade Towers in New York. A plane was flown into the Pentagon, and another one was crashed in Pennsylvania.     In Moscow, Russia, the Chechen radical militant groups the Special Purpose Islamic Regiment, the International Islamic Peacekeeping Brigade, and the Riyadus-Salikhin Reconnaissance and Sabotage Battalion of Chechen Martyrs took responsibility for taking hostage of the Dubrovka Theater. These groups wanted Independence for Chechnya and the withdrawal of Russian troops. There are to be believed to be at least 170 deaths and more than 700 injuries.

What they hoped to achieve was a full Russian troop withdrawal from Chechnya and recognition of Chechen independence.     In Boston MA, brothers Tamerian and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev bombed the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon. These two men were not affiliated with any terrorist group but instead acted upon their extreme Islamic beliefs. In total there were 5 deaths and 280 injuries. Tamerian died due to a firefight with police 4 days after the bombing and Dzhokhar was taken into custody soon after.
