    In about 2200 B.C. the government in ancient Egypt collapsed and many people fought to become the ruler of ancient Egypt. For about 150 years, Upper and Lower Egypt had different rulers.

    The largest of the three stone pyramids is Khufu's Pyramid. Built for Pharoah Khufu. It stands at 147 metres high, and its estimated weight is 6 500 000 tonnes.
    The second of the Giza pyramids was built for the pharaoh Khafra. It was built on higher ground than the rest of the pyramids giving the illusion that it is the largest.

    2700 BC First Stone Pyramid built. It was called 'The Step Pyramid'. The Step Pyramid was built at Saqqara for the pharaoh Djoser. It was made by building several 'steps' or layers of stone on top of each other.

    3100 BC Hieroglyphic Script developed. Hieroglyphics are the alphabet that Ancient Egyptians used to write with. It is made up of symbols instead of letters. Each symbol stands for a word or a couple of them. The Egyptians used this alphabet to record information.

    3500 BC Early Settlers in the Nile Valley. People began to settle in the Nile valley in about 7000 B.C.. They farmed the land, kept animals, and built permanent homes on the banks of the Nile.
