    Virginia Company explorers landed on Jamestown Island to establish the Virginia English colony.While diseases and continuous attacks from the Algonquians depleted most of the population, the Powhatan Indian trade revived the colony. The Jamestown Settlement impacted our country because it was the first permanent settlement in America.

    Mayflower Compact
    The Mayflower Compact was sighned on 11 November 1620 on board of the Mayflower, which was anchored in Provincetown Harbor. The Mayflower Compact was drawn up for the general good of the settlement. It impacted America because it was the first form of self-government.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    The Louisiana Purchase is considered the greatest real estate deal in history. The United States purchased the Louisiana Territory from France at a price of $15 million, or approximately four cents an acre. This impacted America because it doubled the size of the United States and opened up the continent to its westward expansion.

    The Indian Removal Act was sighned into law by Andrew Jackson on May 28, 1830, authorizing the president to grant unsettled lands within existing state borders. Some tribes went peacfully, but many resisted the policy. The impact it had on America was that it created a racial situation with Native Americans treated like second class citizens.

    In January of 1848 James Marshall had a crew cramped on the American River of Colona near Sacramento. On the 24 of January found a few small gold nuggets. This impacted America because this began one of the largest human migrations in history in which they all descended to California in search of gold.

    Assassination of Lincoln
    Lincoln was assinated on the evening of April 14, 1865 whike attending a special performance of the comedy, "Our American Cousin," at Ford;s Theatre, in Washington D.C. Jogn Wikes Booth shot Lincoln in the back of the head while he was watching the play. The impact this had on America was very tragic. The South actually praised the murderer, while the North grieved over his death.

    Prohibition was a period of nearly fourteen years in American history in which the manufacture, sale, and hauling of liquor was banned. The impact it had on America was that it led to the rise of organized crime. New gangsters emerged like Al Capone which is one of the most famous gangsters of this time period.

    The Great Depression began soon after the stock market crash on October 1929, which sent Wall Street into a panic. It impacted America by rising levels of unemployment as falling companies laid off workers.

    The major turn-around for the U.S economy occurred after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the entrance of the U.S into Worl War 2. The war effort will jump-start U.S indusrty and effectively end the Great Depression.

    The Berlin wall was erected in the dead of night and fir 28 years kept East Germans from fleeing to the West. Its destructio, which was nearly as instantaneous as its creation, was celebrated around the world. The fall of the Berlin wall is also a symbol of the end of the Cold War.
