  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    1754, Washington had an unsuccessful effort in capturing Fort Duquesne. The following year, he was determined to do better. After ending the War, the French privately accepted with the British. The fight over territories were between the British, French, and Native allies. The British had been forced to withdraw some expenses.   • First Continential Congress

    First Continential Congress
    12 colonies, sended delegates to Philadelphia to a congress. The congress demanded repeal of the Intolerable Acts and each of the colonies were asked to begin training a militia. They planned to meet again in May 1775.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The sugar act was passed by Parliament, April 5, 1764. Britain had imported taxes on molasses. This had began to crack down on all smugglers. Colonists were very upset and their normal business had been disrupted because of all taxes.The duties that had been imported into colonies provided rules. Parliament had passed the act leading to the Sugar Act. Colonists had boycotted sugar.
  • Stamp Act

    In order to help the cost of the war between Great Britain and France, the officials had began establishing new taxes in colonies. 1765, the tax was passed by Great Britain known as the Stamp act. The colonists were told to pay Great Britain taxes on printed materials. All of these had to be shipped with stamps placed on them, in order to tell if their taxes were paid. Colonists were outraged, and had boycotted all British goods.

    Parliament in Great Britain had lost the battle over the Stamp Act; however, they determined to control the colonies. 1766, they passed a treaty stating there right to vote. Boston took their frustration out by taunting and throwing snowballs at conlonists. These soldiers fired their guns. The soldeirs had gone to court with john Adamas as there lawyer.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Parliament assigned a trading status to the British East India Company to the company’s failed finances. The British government wishes to continue benefit from the company’s position in India and imported duties making it possible for companies to not sell anyone in colonies. New York, Philadelphia, and Charleston all refuse to accept tea shipments. December 16, 1773, 150 patriots disguised themselves as Native Americans and threw pounds of tea in to Boston Harbor.

    The American minutemen are alerted by the “Sons of Liberty” that the British were moving. Minutemen gathered on the Lexington town to face the British. The British were forced back to Boston and about 300 were killed and/or wounded along the way.

    Britain Began organizing more and more troops to defeat the Colonial Resistance. General Gage in Boston had moved troops toward concord, looking for weapons. The American minutemen are alerted by the “Sons of Liberty” that the British were moving. Minutemen gathered on the Lexington town to face the British. The British were forced back to Boston and about 300 were killed and/or wounded along the way.

    The Declaration of Independence explained the concept of people being born with certain rights which cannot be taken away. That includes the idea of “all men are created equal.” They also explained when a government violates a person’s natural rights, the person has a right rebel.

    Burgoyne plan was to control the Hudson Valley that would isolate New England form other states. In order to get there the British troops moved toward Albany from three directions. After the plan had been made, the planed failed. Burgoyne’s own troops were from Canada and had some trouble moving their weapons and supplies south. Americans cut off the troops that had been coming from Western NY that were supposed to be with Burgoyne.

    General Washington’s army was driven from Philadelphia and spent the winter outside the city of Valley Forge, PA. There was very harsh weather, there were some men made cabins from scratch, there was little of food, and there were diseases that spread quickly and there was little of medicine.
  • Treaty of Paris

    The united States agreed to return all the rights and property from loyalists during the war. Loyalists did not trust the treaty's and promised a fair treatment and for good reason. During the war, loyalists had been badly treated by Patriots. More than 80,000 black and white loyalists left the united states to settle in British Canada.
