    The french and Indian war

    Mainly known to be the seven years war, this war was an on going struggle between the British and the French. It started when France moved into the Ohio river valley and the British were claiming it was their property. With the help of the future prime minister William Pitt, the British were able to have victories in major ares like Louisbourg, Fort Frontenac and Quebec.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act of 1764 was a British Law, passed by the Parliament which set a tax on sugar and molasses imported into the colonies which impacted the manufacture of rum in New England.
  • The Boston massacre

    The Boston massacre
    During a protest in Boston, a group of British soldiers were told to respond and stop the violence, and when they arrived, tensions grew, someone in the area yelled fire, and lead the soldiers to believe it was their captains orders. They proceed to fire on the crowed, leaving three dead immediately, then two dead from injures.

    This act was on of many different measures forced on the Americans by the British government that lead up to the Revolutionary war. The Tea acts original purpose was to to bail out the struggling East India Company, a big help in the British economy.

    Boston Port Act
    Also known as the Trade Act, was an act passed by the British parliament with the purpose of closing the Boston harbor until the tea that had been destroyed at the Boston Tea Party was cleared and payments were made to the East India Company for the tea they had lost. Also payments were to be payed to the king for lost taxes.

    This act was passed by the British government in 1765 that required the American colonists to house, feed, and take care of the Red coats in there own homes.

    Patrick Henry's “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” Speech
    This event took place at the Second Virginia Convention at St. John’s Church in Richmond when Patrick Henry gave a short speech to the Old Dominion wanting them to form militias to defend itself against the British. The speech led the convention to his side.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    These battles were considered the start of the revolutionary war. This started when hundreds of British troops marched from Boston to nearby Concord in order to seize an arms supply. Riders like Paul Revere and others warn Lexington, and the colonial troops are ready. They force the British to retreat firing at them when they leave.

    This battle was the first battle that the American Colonist won during the war and would give them a artillery for future battles. ( it was a small battle)

    During the start of the war, the colonial army suffers a not surprising loss to the British. Besides there loss, they did better than predicted, and got a big confidence boost.

    Washington was named as the commander in chief over many other opponents for his military record was believed to be able to unite the colonies better.

    Thomas Paine writes Common Sense
    This pamphlet "Common Sense" written by Thomas Paine was the first document to openly challenge the British government and monarchy and ask for independence from the British.
  • Declaration of Independence is written and signed by delegates in the Continental Congress

    Declaration of Independence is written and signed by delegates in the Continental Congress
    A total of 56 delegates signed the Declaration of Independence, although John Dickinson of Pennsylvania and James Duane, Robert Livingston and John Jay of New York refused to sign. Five delegates were absent: George Washington, John Sullivan, James Clinton,Christopher Gadsden and Patrick Henry.

    This act occurred when a group of Massachusetts colonists dressed up in Mohawk Indian discuses and dumped 342 barrels of tea into the Boston harbor. This was protest was a reaction to the Tea act passed by the British government.

    This battle was highly significant because it was considered the turning point in the revolutionary war. The British army attacked the first time on September 19th and won, but many British troops died. They attack again on October 7th, and are forced by the colonists to retreat.

    The French were compelled to make this treaty after there loss to the British in the seven years war. They were a key player for the Americans for winning the Revolutionary war.

    This was the final battle of the revolutionary war after Colonial forces and the French beat the British army forcing them to surrender. The British began negotiating peace treaties afterwards.

    General Cornwallis surrenders to Washington at Yorktown
    During the battle of Yorktown, the Americans and french win and force the British to surrender, and General Cornwallis starts creating peace treaties.

    This treaty was the official end of the Revolutionary war. It was signed by John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and John Jay.
