French and Indian War

A 9-year war ending in the Treaty of Paris. A war between Great Britain and France (plus both of the power's allies). The major battles occurred in New York, Pennsylvania, Canada, and Nova Scotia. King George III was the king of Britain when they lost the colonies. Sonf of Liberty helped fight in this war.

Proclamation of 1763

Limitations on Territory where colonists could settle in America. Took place in 1763. It was made in order to 'allow' Natives to the land to keep some of their territory.

Sugar Act

Enacted in 1764. A huge tax was implemented on products shipped to US Colonies by non-British sources. Eventually repealed two years later.

Quartering Act

Happening in 1765, Great Britain allowed soldiers to live with American colonists in their homes. They'd also live in hotels, barns, or pretty much anywhere that they'd fit.

Boston Massacre

Happened in 1768 in Boston, Massachusetts. A crowd got into an argument with a small group of British soldiers, resulting in a violent mob and physical attacks that killed five colonists. One of these deaths included Crispus Attucks.

1773

Intolerable Acts

Happened in 1774. Consisting of the Boston Port Act, the Massachusetts Government Act, the Administration of Justice Act, and the Quartering Act, the Intolerable Acts were acts put into place by the Brits to punish Colonists for their disobedience. Happened throughout Colonial America. committee of correspondence eas against these acts.

Enacted in 1773. British allowed companies to send tea directly to the colonies instead of first going to Britain, in order to save the tea business

Occurring in 1773, the Boston Tea Party consisted of men dressing as natives and throwing tea overboard off of ships to protest tax without representation. Took place in Boston Harbor.

Happening in 1774, the First Continental Congress was a group of Colonials meeting to discuss resistance towards British rule. This meeting happened in Philadelphia. Helped in creation of parliament.

A battle happened due to the Patriots wanting to be able to protect themselves from British rule. Happened in Lexington and Concord.

Second Continental Congress

Happened in 1775. A meeting discussing how Colonists could be accurately defended against the British military. It also discussed how to react if British rule didn't reveal the oppressing acts put upon the Colonies. Happened in Philadelphia.

Happened in 1775. Happened in Charlestown, Boston. A battle between Americans and the British, resulted in American loss. America did, however, do a lot of damage to enemies.

A petition was sent to the King of England to try to de-escalate war talks. The message didn't work. Sent to England from Colonial America.

A published piece of writing challenging and tearing apart British ruling by royal monarchy. It discussed separation from Britain and a democracy. Written in Colonial America.

Declaration of Independence

Wrote in 1776. A notice of separation was written for the Colonies of America to gain soldiers, and create a new country, and taken into place by Congress on July 4. Ben Franklin signed the Declaration of Independence.

Battle of New York

The battle took place in 1776. It consisted of British forces winning against American troops. Because of this win in the biggest battle since Dec. of Ind., Brits gained control of the New York Port. Benedict Arnold was a traitor who tried to overturn the Colonial War, particularly in Lake Chaplian of New York.

Battle of Saratoga

Americans won the battle against the British which represented a turning point in the war. Happened in Saratoga in an attempt to isolate the colonies and get it away from the Hudson River. General John Burgoyne's defeat happened here in this battle.

Battle happening in Monmouth that Americans won. Thanks to this win, American moral was increased. The Continental Army won this battle.

This battle took place in 1778. Happened in Colonial Yorktown. Americans won, guaranteeing independence from England. despite the Hessians hired by the British, they still lost. General Cornwallis surrender here, which helped peace talks with British and Colonials.
