  • Navigation Act

    Navigation Act
    Parliament passed this act in order to regulate colonial trade and manufacturing. Smuggling was common however, and this act was not super strictly enforced.
  • French and Indian War Ends

    French and Indian War Ends
    The war ultimately ended with the Treaty of Paris in 1763. This caused great Britain to gain a lot of territory in North America.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Put taxes on items such as newspapers and pamphlets. "No taxation without representation", the colonists believed parliament had no right to tax these things.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    British soldiers opened fire on a group of colonists throwing rocks/snowballs at them. Only 5 were killed, yet it was deemed a "massacre".
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The tea act was passed with no intent on raising any taxes on the colonies, yet still sparked protests.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Colonists were protesting the recent tax out on tea, and threw cargo of tea into the Boston Harbor. Parliament later passed harsh laws in hopes to punish the entire state of Massachusetts.
  • Coercive/Intolerable Acts

    Coercive/Intolerable Acts
    Consisted of things such as the Port Bill which closed the Boston port, the Quartering Acts, and the Administration of Justice Act.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    Representatives gathered from the 12 colonies in Philadelphia to discuss how to respond to the events that took place in Boston, Massachusetts.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    This was the beginning of the American Revolution, when colonists and British troops first clashed, This resulted in the Second Continental Congress.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
    Met shortly after Lexington and Concord and also set up a Continental army with George Washington being in charge.
  • Declaration of Independence Adopted.

    Declaration of Independence Adopted.
    When the Declaration of Independence was issued, it officially stated the United States disconnection politically with Great Britain. This is what ultimately deemed the United States an independent nation.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    This battle was the first major turning point for the American Revolution, as the Americans came out victorious over the British. This caused the French to ultimately join the American army, providing them with needed supplies and soldiers.
  • Winter at Valley Forge

    Winter at Valley Forge
    Continental troops suffered at Valley Forge in the winter from 1777-1778. Factors such as the cold, along with hunger and disease made it almost unbearable.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    George Washington forced the British army to surrender, which ultimately caused their downfall.
  • U.S Constitution Written

    U.S Constitution Written
    The U.S Constitution set a series of checks and balances. With this, each branch of government was able to monitor and limit the powers of other branches.
