The French and Indian War
War between the British/Colonists and French/Indians over land in North America. The British won giving them land in Canada. -
Proclamation of 1763
Proclamation created by the British forbidding the colonists from settling west of the Appalachin Mountains in an effort to keep them under control. However the colonists largely ignored this law. -
Sugar Act
Teh Sugar Act was placed on the colnists, taxing all sugar and molasses. The act was eventually repealed in 1766 due to colonist opposition. -
Stamp Act
Act placed on the colonists taxing all paper products such as wills, newspapers and playing cards. It was repealed on March 17, 1766 after heavy opposition by the colonists. -
Declaratory Act
Act on the colonies saying that Parliament had full authority to pass laws and taxes against the colonies. -
Townshend Duties
The townshed duties were a tax placed on the colonies taxing glass, lead, paint, paper and tea. -

Bristish soldiers killed five colonist civilians who were rioting in the street. -
Tea Act
The Tea Act was a tax placed on tea over the colonies. -
Boston Tea Party
A group of colonists called the Sons of Liberty dressed up like Indians, and plundered a British ship carrying tea, to protest the Tea Act. -
Intolerable Acts
Acts placed upon Boston as a punishment fom the "Tea Party". Contained numerous acts such as the Quartering Act, placed a British appointed Governor in power and closed the ports. -
Lexington and Concord
The first battle of the Revolutionary War, the British General Gage attempted to sieze weapons in Concord but were defeated by minutemen at Concord River. -
Battle of Bunder Hill
The British won a battle for the ontrol of Bunker hill but sustained heavy casualties. -
The Olive Branch Petition
The Olive branch Petition was a document written by the Continental Congress and sent to King George III that stated that the colonies wanted peace. However the document was rejected by the British. -

Pamphlet written by Thomas Paine calling for the colonists to be independent. -
Siege of Boston Ends
British fled from Boston Harbor and surrendered the town, making every March 17 Evacuation Day. -

Document written by Thomas Jefferson and signed by colonist leaders declaring the colonies' independence from Britain. -

British General Howe defeated Colonist General Washington in a narrow victory giving colonists hope. -
Battle of Saratoga
British General Burgoyne is stopped by colonist General Horatio Gates and Benedict Arnold stopping the British from joining forces in New York City. -
Articles of Confederation Created
An agreement between the original thirteen colonies establishing the United States of America as a federation of states and served as a constitution. -
Valley Forge
Winter spot where George Washington and the Continental Army stayed. Lack of food and warmth along with harsh discipline and training caused the army to become much stronger during this winter. -
Battle of Charleston
British victory in which American General Benjamin Lincoln surrendered 5,000 troops to the British. -
Batle of Camden
A major loss for colonist general Horatio Gates, British general Cornwalis defeated the colonies strengthening their hold on hte south. -
Battle of Yorktown
Final major land battle of the Revolutionary War in which American and French forces defeated British General Lord Cornwallis. -
Treaty of Paris
Formal agreement between the Colonists and British ending the Revolutionary War, and declaring that the United Sates was a free union.
