The French Indian War lasted 7 years and ended with the Treaty of Paris. Britain won great amounts of territory but increased the nation’s debt a lot. In an attempt to pay for the war the king gave the colonists the Sugar Act.

The Proclamation of 1763 was an order from the king that the colonists could not move past the Appalachian Mountains. This angered colonists who wanted to move or already had territory farther or on the Appalachian Mountains.

The Sugar act taxed tea and reduced tax on molasses. This was an attempt by the King to pay for the French Indian War. This angered the colonists because they thought they should not be paying for the British's War, also Tea was a big part of their culture so they needed sugar, so they felt unnecessarily taxed.

Colonists protested and were angry because they felt like they should not pay a tax that was passed in England and passed by parliament not their own colonial government.

The Boston Massacre was caused by a group of rallying colonists who were protesting in front of a group of British soldiers. When the crowd got rowdier the soldiers got scared and fired into the crowd, the first man killed was Crispus Attucks.

The Olive Branch petition was an attempt from the colonists to make peace with the British by sending a letter to the king. The king disregarded the letter and did not remove any acts which caused the revolution to go on.
