  • French and Indian War

    France and Great britain had fought three inconclusive wars. One major area of contention between france and great britain was the rich ohio river valley.After six years of peaceful the french british conflict reignited
  • Proclamation of 1763

    The proclamation made a border along the appalachians which the colonist couldn't cross. The colonists ignored the proclamation and continue to stream onto native american lands.
  • Sugar Act

    During the war britain had borrowed so much money that it doubled the national debt. Colonial merchants complained about how the sugar act would reduce their profit. The sugar act hoped that the colonish would pay a lower tax.
  • Stamp Act

    The stamp act imposed a tax on the document. This is was the first tax that affected the colonist which then the colonists were not happy about.
  • Sons of liberty is formed

    Artisans and labors made a secret group called the Son of liberty is formed. The colonists declared the parliament because they werent represent in parliament.
  • Townshend Acts

    The townshend act did good taxes that were imported into colony from britain. The most famous drink in the colony was the tea because they imposed a tax on that.
  • Boston Massacre

    In boston fucee colonist were fired and shot. The city soon came bloody. Then later on the colonial leader quickly labeled the thing boston massacre.
  • Tea Act

    Lord north devised the tea act in order to save the nearly bankrupt british east india company. The granted act had a right to sell tea to the colonies. North hoped the american colonists would simply buy the cheap tea.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston calls themselves as native american and takes action of three ships in the harbor. The indians dmped 18000 pounds of india companys into the water of boston
  • Intolerable Acts

    Parliament responded by passing a series of measure that the colonists called intolerable act. One law that they mad shut down the boston harbor.
  • Battles of lexington and concord

    Colonists in boston were watching. 700 british troops were headed for concord. When the british marched on to concord, they found an empty weapons. The colonists had become enemies of Britain because of what they did.
  • Second continenetal congress

    Some delegates called for independence which others were arguing non stop with great britain. The congress agreed to reconize the colonial military as the continental army.
  • Battle of bunker hill

    Thomas gage decided to strike the militiamen on breeds hill. Gage sent 2400 british soldiers up the hill. The colonist held their fire until the last minute.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    They were urging a return to the former harmony between the colonists and britain. King George flatly rejected the petition.The congress sent the king the so called olive branch petition.
  • First continental congress meet

    The colonists in many eastern town stepped up the military preparation. General thomas gage ordered troops so they can go from boston to concord, massachusetts.
  • Publication of common sense

    Just as important were the ideas of thomas paine. in 50 pages of pamphlet common sense paine attacked the king george and the monarchy. Paine explained his own revolt against the king had begun with lexington and concord.
  • Declaration of independence

    Virginia lawyer who was Thomas Jefferson was chosen to prepare for the final draft. Jefferson provided a long list of violence by the king. The american colonies declared their indepencdence from britain.
  • Early British victories

    The british sailed into New york harbor in the summer of 1776 witha force of about 32000 soldiers. This included thousands of german mercenaries, hired soldiers, known as hessians.
  • Early continental army victory

    The continental army attempt to defend new york in late august. The british soon regrouped in sep 1777 they capture the americas capital at philadelphia. He led 2400 men in small rowboat across delaware river
  • Saratoga

    American troops finally surrounded burgoyne at saratoga. The surrender at saratoga turned out to be one of the most important events in the war. the french had secretly aided the patriots since early 1776.
  • Friedrich von steuben and marquis de lafayette

    American troops began an amazing transformation. Friedrich von steuben who is a prussian captain and talented drillmaster. And he helped in the continental army. Another foreign military leader is Marquis de lafavette who arrived to offer his help. With the help of european leaders the raw continental army became an effective fighting force.
  • British victories in the south.

    After the devastating defeat at saratoga, the british began to shift their operation to the south. Charles cornwallis capture Charles town south carolina in may 1780. He led his army 7500 onto the peninsula between the james and york river and camped at yorktown. The british then chose to move the fight to virginia.
  • Valley forge

    More than 2000 soldiers died and the survivor didnt desert. This hopeful turn of events took place in paris washington and his continental army. They were low on food supplies and they fought in the winter camp.
  • British surrender at yorktown

    A french novel defeated a british fleet and then blocked the entrance to chesa[eake bay. 17000 french and american troops surrounded the british on yorktown. The american had shocked the world and defeated the british.
  • The treaty of paris

    The united state now stretched from the atlantic ocean to the mississippi river from canada to florida border. The peace began in paris on 1782. The delegates signed the treaty of paris which confirmed the us independence and set boundries in the new nation.
