The day Washington became commander of the Continental Army certainly was a memorable day. That is, until Washington, no, General Washington realized just how many supplies his "army" lacked. He constantly reported just that to Congress, but they were slow to act. Eventually, the Continental Army's condition improved. http://cdn2.hubspot.net/hub/359549/file-717921082-jpg/colorful-george-washington_95144.jpg

This victory largely improved the living conditions of the army. Plus, they received ammunition and killed large numbers, no, over 900 Hessians in the process. Congress might've gotten to lay off providing supplies for a while, but they still should've acted, after the army was pretty much half-starved. At least the Hessians got to celebrate before being killed in their sleep.

This occurrence might've been what secured the Americans' victory. The French provided everything the Americans needed: troops, ammunition, training, etc. You can thank Benjamin Franklin for that. http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/althistory/images/a/ae/US-French_Cold_War_Flag_(No_Napoleon).svg/revision/latest?cb=20120802051445

John Paul Jones's Bonhomme Richard and a large British ship named the Serapis against each other. like most battles, his victory inspired most Americans to keep going. But, a less-equipped boat facing against a ship from the best navy! The captain, self-assured, demanded Jones surrender. Jones had faith and kept fighting till his boat was worn out. After he won, he had to sail back on the Serapis, with all the holes in his ship.

Personally, I felt that this was the worst battle in the American Revolution. It wasn't even really a battle, more like a struggle. With Gates' overconfidence and militia up front, I wouldn't count on a victory this time. After meeting the powerful British at the front line, the militia panicked, with Gates not too far away. Kalb stayed and fought while receiving fatal wounds. Not only did Gates' reputation fall, but so did the American spirits.

The name Benedict Arnold became indistinguishable from the word "traitor," even till this day. Arnold's mind eventually became clouded, thinking that Congress had not rewarded him enough after his victories at Saratoga. He was also influenced by his Loyalist wife. Arnold even planned to just hand over an American fort to the British! Although his plans were discovered beforehand, he escaped.
