Stamp Act

Boston Tea Party

Lexington / Concord

The battles of Lexington and Concord started the Revolutionary War. The battles were fought on April 19, 1775. The Americans won the battles and the British retreated back to Boston. These battles we symmetrical because the British were marching there and the Americans were ready for it.

Bunker (Breed's) Hill

On June 17, 1775, British forces under the command of general William Howe marched to Breed's Hill. The Americans fired at the British and making the British retreat. The British attacked again and the same results happened.

Common Sense

"Common Sense" was published in January of 1776 by Thomas Paine. He wrote it in the language of the people. "Common Sense" grew the patriot cause. It didn't make any difference to the readers that he was a new arrival to America. This is symmetrical because he was new to America and didn't have any problems.

Declaration of Independence

The Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. The 13 American colonies put an end to their connections to Great Britain. This was asymmetrical because they both split up.

Battle at Trenton/Princeton

The battle of Trenton took place on December 26, 1776. The battle was in Trenton, New Jersey in the United States. The battle was the Americans against the Hessians and the British and Americans won. This is symmetrical because they all were in it a took part.

Battle of Saratoga

The turning point for the the Revolutionary War was the Battle of Saratoga. On October 17, 1777, about 6,000 British and Hessian troops surrendered. Americans had won the war.

Continental Army wintering at Valley Forge

The Continental Army under general George Washington entered camp Valley Forge on December 19, 1777. Many soldiers got sick from diseases and the coldness. They walked out of camp stronger and more confident than when they entered.

War in the south/Charleston

The war in Charleston was very successful for Britain during the American Revolution. They shifted their strategy to focus on the south. They wanted to capture the city and the harbor first. This is asymmetrical because it was a war that patriots weren't up for.

Battle of Yorktown

On September 28, 1781, General George Washington commanding a force of 17,000 French and Continental troops, started the Battle of Yorktown against the British. This was the most important battle of the Revolutionary War.
