    The Boston Massacre - 1770

    On March 5th, 1770: A street fight broke out between the patriots and British troops. The patriots were mocking and throwing things, such as rocks, stones, and sticks, at the British troops. The British troops fired their weapons and guns not long after. Five colonists were shot and killed in this event, which outraged the colonists. This is known as the first event of the American Revolution.

    On December 16th, 1773 angry colonists,(Including Sons of Liberty founder, Samuel Adams) some dressed as Native Americans, dumped 342 crates of tea into the Boston Harbor. The colonists dumped the crates of tea into the harbor because of the “taxation without representation” laws Britain imposed.

    Between September 5th - October 26th, 1774 delegates from the colonies met to discuss the the Coercive Acts. The Coercive Acts were a chain of measures the British put in place; that punished the colonists for the Boston Tea Party, by taxing them. Important Patriots that attended the event were Patrick Henry, George Washington, John and Samuel Adams, John Jay, and John Dickinson.

    On April 19th, 1775 British troops went from Boston to capture rebels, John Hancock and Samuel Adams, and to destroy all of the Americans weaponry and ammunition in Concord.

    On June 17th, 1775, the American Patriots and the British soldiers were at war. The Patriots had settled on the hills of the war area, giving them an advantage. The Americans had caused the British about 1,100 casualties, while the Americans only had around 400 casualties. Though the Americans had killed more of the British, the British won because the Americans had to retreat, because all ammunition was used.

    On July 4th, 1776, the Declaration of Independence, mainly written by future president, Thomas Jefferson was adopted by the Second Continental Congress. The document stated the reasons the American colonists desired independence, and why England, the king, and the government was treating them poorly.

    On September 19th - October 7th, 1777, the American Patriots defeated the well trained British army, in Saratoga, New York. This victory boasted the patriots morale, and is the reason why the French would begin supporting the Americans in war.

    On December 19th, 1777 to June 19th, 1778, the American Army under George Washington, was camping in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. During the time the army was there, many were suffering and others had died from the cold, hunger, and fatigue. The Patriots were suffering from low morale, as well.

    On September 8th - October 19th, 1781, the English Patriots, with the help of French soldier allies, surrounded and trapped the major British army at Yorktown, Virginia. Because they were surrounded, the British General, Charles Cornwallis, surrendered, ending the American Revolution, making the Patriots, or new Americans, the winners.

    On September 3rd, 1783, the Treaty of Paris was signed by by American and British Representatives. The signing of this treaty officially ended the Revolutionary War, granted the U.S. independence, and gave the Americans their land. American statesman such as Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and John Jay were vital to the treaty being agreed upon with Britain.

    Most Important Event in the American Revolution (my opinion)

    I chose the Battle of Yorktown (Sep. 8th - Oct. 19th, 1781) to be the most important because, the British surrendered from the war, making the Americans independent and away from British rule. (By the way I put the date as 2020, so it would appear as the last event!)
