  • French and Indian War

    This war lasted for Seven years. It enable the British to gain Northern territory eventually disagreements led to colonial upsets which evolved into the American Revolution.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    King George III issued a proclamation forbidding the colonists from settling west of the Appalachian Mountains.
  • The Sugar Act

    The British government added taxes to sugar and molasses so they could get more revenue.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act is an act that imposed a direct tax on the British colonies in America. It required that commonly printed material in the colonies be produced on stamped paper made in London. . In addition, it had to be paid in British currency, not in colonial paper money.
  • Townshend Acts

    "The purposes of the acts were to:
    raise revenue in the colonies to pay the salaries of governors and judges so that they would remain loyal to Great Britain
    create more effective means of enforcing compliance with trade regulations
    punish the Province of New York for failing to comply with the 1765 Quartering Act
    establish the precedent that the British Parliament had the right to tax the colonies[3]"

  • Boston Massacre

    A street fight broke out between British Soldiers and a patriot mob. Several citizens died and people wanted justice. Some of the soldiers were tried and acquitted.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Colonists were fed up with being taxed and protesting the Tea Act. A group of patriots disguised as Indians went on the British boats and dumped 342 tea chests in the sea.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Acts passed by the British government that punished that Massachusetts Colony for their defiance in the tea party protest.

    The Continental Navy is created and was used to block UK ships that were supplying the British troops that were in Boston at the time.

This secured the southern route for supplies and closed off the possibility of any British offensive through the western frontier of the United States via the Mississippi River.     At the Battle of Saratoga John Burgoyne is surrounded by American troops and captured.
  • Two Treaties Created Between France & U.S.

    Two treaties called the Commercial treaty and Alliance Treaty were created after the war between the UK and US had concluded.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Once the surrender by Cornwallis, and the capture of both him and his army, prompted the British government to negotiate an end to the conflict.
  • Shay's Rebellion

    "an armed uprising in Western Massachusetts and Worcester in response to a debt crisis among the citizenry and in opposition to the state government's increased efforts to collect taxes both on individuals and their trades.[2][3][4] The fight took place mostly in and around Springfield during 1786 and 1787."
