  • Neutrality Act

    Neutrality Act
    Even though France and Britain declare war on Germany, President Roosevelt stays true to the Neutrality Act. This act states that the United Stated shall stay out of foreign wars. He also stated that the country shall remain open minded even though they are a neutral.
  • Withholding of gasoline

    The United States withholds gasoline from Japan. The reason is because the Japanese do not end their threats to China. This causes even more tension between the United States and Japan.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    In response to the growing tension between the United States and Japan, Japan bombs Pearl Harbor. It was an unexpected attack where half of the United States fleet where destroyed.
  • Office of War Information

    Office of War Information
    The office of War Information (OWI) mobilized war efforts with the use of radio, film, posters, and the National Press. They released a film named "Little Tokyo" where it portrayed Japanese Americans as volunteer spies. Also, people were told to save their rubber. Even children were sorting out all of the donations. People were even donating things of sentimental value, just to help the war effort.

    War Effort
    All businesses were mobilized for war efforts.The automobile industry was converted into war production, rationing of gasoline took place and other events that meant that people were putting in all of their efforts into the war. Everyone felt that they were contributing and it was an act of patriotism. They were only given a certain amount of fuel and were even told to ride with someone instead of by themselves every single day.
  • Order 9066

    Order 9066
    President Roosevelt approved order 9066, where Japanese Americans were to be placed in interment camps. They would evacuate anyone with Japanese descent in fear that they were spies for the enemies.

    Roosevelt's Speech
    The United States confidence had decreased after several defeats by the Japanese. President Roosevelt gave a speech in which citizens felt more confident because he had the capacity to inspire and to move his people.
  • Rosie the Riveter

    Rosie the Riveter
    Rosie the Riveter was a type of propaganda trying to convince more women to join the workforce. While men were at war, women were the ones to fill the gaps and worked in factories. They left their homes to support the war.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    The allies invade Western Europe in seek to liberate France from Nazi Germany. They landed on five beaches along the Normandy region. These landings are the beginning events of the end of the war.
  • Roosevelt dies

    Roosevelt dies
    When president Roosevelt dies, many suffer his death. He was their motivator and he inspired the people and his death hurt many. He had a ceremony in which many people attended. Their leader had just died, they did not know what they were to do next.
  • Victory

    Victory
    After the dropping of the two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan finally surrenders. This marked the official end to the war, where troops could finally come back home. For many, war had been over since their loved ones died, but also for many, this was a great moment.
