  • 19th Amendment

    19th Amendment
    The 19th Amendment was the amendment that gave all women the right to vote. While it was initially passed in the year 1919 it was'nt ratified until the 1920's. Most people consider this to be a huge milestone in America's history since women were never truely considered equals and, sadly, still sometimes are not. The fight for this amendment started around in the 1800's and finally after all those years it finally happened. Most people were not alive to finally see it happen.

    Stock Market Crash (Black Thursday)
    The Stock Market Crash, also known as Black Thursday, was the beginning of the great Depression. At first it started as a slow decline in the stock market but after a couple people paniced and started selling their stocks everything went downhill. All of the stock prices went down and were being bought for dirt cheap making people go crazy. There were even rumors of suiside. The panic ended when a few bankers reinvested their money back into the stock market to help fix it.

    Franklin D. Roosevelt Is Elected
    Franklin D Roosevelt or FDR for short was elected as our 32'nd president during the years of the great depression and reelected later in 4 years. Some say he did the most with his years as president, that could just be because of the time he was elected or that we was that good. He gave financial aid to those in need, and came up with "The New Deal". Which helped most people except for when it came to rights for African Americans and women. They still got the least out of all of it.

    The Dust Bowl (Black Sunday)
    For a couple of years before Black Sunday there were a lot of droughts and hardships in the great plains but this was the worst day in all of the Dust Bowl. Throughout the entire day the sky was completely dark and there was nothing but sand everywhere. There was no way to get clean water because it was always sandy and all of the crops were destroyed. Life was hard before hand but this put the nail in the coffin for those living in the area.

    World War 2 ends
    After the long fight of WWII, days after the bombing of nagasaki and Hiroshima, Japan surrenders, formally ending the war. The ending of this war led to a lot of peace treaties by germany and them having to pay back all of the countries it took over and ruined. America's economy was booming and the country itself was in a time of peace with all of the soldiers coming home. The only problem was some people who came back were not satisfied with their lives and wanted something more.

  • Immigration and Nationallity Act

    Immigration and Nationallity Act
    Also known as INA, this act was introduced under president Truman. He actually vetoed the act but it was eventually overridden and passed anyway, The act got rid of any racial restrictions on those going in and out of the country. Immigrants were then put into three different categories. Those with unique skills for jobs, those with relatives, and refugees/normal immigrants.

    Elvis Presley Signs with Sunset Records
    While this event wasn't especially important, Elvis himself was very important in the 1950's. He was apart of the new culture and all of the people rejecting morals and just wanting to have fun. While very popular he was sometimes hated for having black backround singers, his dance style, and the songs themselves. While watching him many people had their views change or even strengthen with the civil rights for blacks and women.

    Vietnam War Begins for the U.S
    Around this time we were already kind of invested in the war by lending aid to France and all of its efforts, but they were starting to lose so they disengaged from the war and the U.S eventually took its place. The reason we cared about this war in the first place is because we, at this time, were afraid of communism. We also thought that if we let it spread it would just take over the world.
  • Rosa Parks

    Rosa Parks
    Most people know who Rosa Parks and what she did. She single handedly started a civil rights movement by refusing to give up her seat on a bus. While she wasn't the only person to do this, she definetely had the most impact. This eventually led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott. She was looked up to by many people and an inspiration in the civil rights movement, but was also hated by others and even fired from her job.

  • Cuban Missle Crisis

    Cuban Missle Crisis
    On this day a U.S spy plane took a picture of a nuclear missle site in Cuba and instantly panic arose. The Kennedy Administration thought of a couple different ways to deal with it but ended up going with a blockade to "quarantine" the area. The leader of Cuba publicly agreed to dismantle the nuclear weapons as long as kennedy agreed to not invade cuba.
  • JFK is assasinated

    JFK is assasinated
    John F. Kennedy is killed and its a day people who were alive would not forget. Killed in Dallas, Texas he was a beloved president and a navy officer from WWII. The entire country was mourning the loss of their leader and his family instantly became tv celebrities across the country, At 2:30 PM Johnson was inagurated on the same day. At his Funeral nearly 250,000 people attended.
  • Vietnam War Ends

    Vietnam War Ends
    The Vietnam War ending with the paris peace accords, which were mostly just a bunch of treaties. Even though a lot of soldiers were happy that they were able to leave Vietnam, most of the knew it wasn't going to be able to withstand any more attacks from communism since it was so weak. The reason this war was seen as loss is because 2 years later it did end up being taken by communism.

  • Ronald Reagan Elected

    Ronald Reagan Elected
    Ronald Reagan was loved during his presidency and admired for his great "Economic Turnaround". He completely changed the economy in his time of office and is considered one of the best presidents to this day. Within 70 days of him being elected he was shot by a would-be assassin and quickly recovered which made his popularity grow even higher. In 1984 he also won a second term with Bush.
  • John Lennon Killed

    John Lennon Killed
    John Lennon was a very famous musician and one of the founders of The Beatles. He was a figurehead to the entire country and his death was a shock to everyone including his two kids and wife. He was a great Anti-War activist and could be considered a "Hippie". Many people consider him to be one of the greatest Anti-Vietnam war activist for all he did to protest the war.
  • The Lebanon War

    The Lebanon War
    In 1982 Isreal invaded Lebanon and it started a complete war. It started as just being a "Test" for the Isreal military but quickly turned into a full-scale invasion. The Invasion fell short and the Isrealites were eventually pushed out of Lebanon but not without plenty of cassualties. Everyone across the world looked down on them for what they did and condemned them. During this time, American troops were sent to assist Lebanon due to them being our allies.
  • The Fall of The Berlin Wall

    The Fall of The Berlin Wall
    The Fall of the Berlin Wall came from many different reasons. The new leader of the Soviets was one of the causes himself. He saw flaws in the economy and thought of ways to fix them which allowed people to be more open about their problems with the country. Eventually on Midnight of this day the leaders allowed the gates to be open due to days of mass protests and people went crazy trying to break down the wall and get through. Both sides were greeting with cheers from either side.
