  • Hawaiian Islands

    Hawaiian Islands
    The United States was growing and expanding as a larger nation. In 1898 the United States annexed the Hawaiian Islands.
  • The Great Migration

    The Great Migration
    Between 1916 and 1920 half a million African Americans left the South for new jobs in the North. They believed there were better opportunities in the North.
  • Russian revolution

    Russian revolution
    In 1917 Czar Nicholas II is overthrown. Then in 1918-1920 there is a civil war in Russia between the “Reds” and “whites”. The “Reds” are Bolsheviks (Support Communism)
  • The First Red Scare

    The First Red Scare
    The first Red Scare was when the American people grew a great fear for the spreading of communism. Communism was when one group or party had strictly controlled the governemtn and the people.
  • Labor Strikes

    Labor Strikes
    Cost of living had double but wages were far behind. In 1919 there were 3,600 strikes. The main strikes included the Seattle general strike, the police strike in Boston, the steel strike, and the coal strike. Steelworkers worked 12-hours a day and seven days a week went on strike. Coal miners also went on strike for nearly a month.
    - All the major strikes of the time were portrayed as being anti-American and threatened the United States government
  • Palmer raids

    Palmer raids
    Raids led by attorney general A. Mitchell Palmer
    The Palmer set up a special force for these raids to arrest people suspected of radical causes. The raids took place on November 1919 and January 1920. They targeted Communists, Socialists, and anarchists. In one night more than 4,000 people were arrested. 600 immigrants were deported.
  • KKK

    KKK
    The KKK was a popular group that was prejudice to all other nationalities and religions. At night the KKK would dress in all white and walk the streets burning crosses in peoples yards and killing anyone that tried to stop them.
  • Hoover was president

    People had less faith in the economy which hurt the chance for recovery. He was the Initial reaction to the Depression.
  • National Park Service

    National Park Service
    This agency is responsible for all the National Parks in the United States. This organization was in charge of keeping the national parks in good condition and keeping them as an importance in the community.
  • Unemployment

    In 1932 unemployment was 25%. There were growing poverty and hardships. The charity funds became inadequate.
  • Selective Service Training Act

    Selective Service Training Act
    It was the 1st peacetime draft. All men 21-35 were drafted to fight.There were a total of 1 million men who were drafted for 1 year of service. They were only in western hemisphere and would fight in America to protect the U.S. This was to strengthen U.S. defenses and keep the U.S. our of war
  • Lend-Lease Act

    Lend-Lease Act
    In March of 1941the government and the people gave the President the right to sell, lend, or lease military supplies to any nation ”vital to the defense of the United States." A $7 billion budget was given yet the United States ended up spending $50 billion on weapons, vehicles, supplies, to Allies.
  • Atlantic Charter

    Atlantic Charter
    In August of 1941 Roosevelt and Churchill agreed on a set of common principles establishing their goals for post world war. Each nation has the right to choose its own government free from fear of aggression and create an international organization to protect the security of all countries.
  • Veterns Return

    WWII veterans were trying to rebuild their lives and careers
    economy was adjusting to peacetime production. Many returning workers were available and looking for any jobs available. People wanted to put wartime sacrifices behind them and enjoy the prosperity and freedom that they had fought four.
  • Republicans gain control of congress

    They wanted to ‘correct’ the New Deal. There were two opinions on the American System
    1.) ‘advocated by new deal’
    government controlled regulating our lives
    2.)‘individualizing freedom and all that (it) regards’
  • New Currency

    New Currency
    Tensions had reached a breaking point when the
    United States, Britain, and France announced a new currency for
    the three western zones and West Berlin. The Soviet leaders had decleared that the money would begin circulatin gthe next day.
  • Hot War Flares in Korea

    90,000 North Korean troops following soviet made tanks poured across the 38th parallel. This was another way the cold war had deepend.
  • Eisenhower Elected

     Eisenhower Elected
    This was the election in 1952. Eisenhower was a republican. He was also a seasoned soldier and grandfather figure.

    Sputnik Fires

    In August, the soviets tested 1st successful intercontinental missile (A long-range missile carrying a nuclear warhead.) Then in October soviets launched Sputnik, A satellite which orbited earth.
  • 9/11

    A group of terrist al qaeda members higacked multiple aircrafts. They then flew them into important buildingsz killing and injuring many.
  • Barack Obama

    Obama was and is the 44th president of the United States. he was the first African American president for America. He was elected into office in 2010 then for a second term in 2014
