    Alexander Graham bell is often credited for making the first working telephone. The first words spoken out of a telephone were "Watson! Come here, i want to see you!"

    Karl benz invented modern automobiles. He was also the founder of Mercedes-Benz
  • The invention of radio

    In 1915 real radio broadcasting began. Many inventors were involved in the invension of the radio. radio now a days has multiple uses but of course the number one is communication; whether its communication from media or people in the military that need to communicate with others etc.
  • 18th Amendment

    The 18th Amendment prohibited alcoholic beverages in the United States. It was also known as prohibition. Though alcohol was illegal that didn't stop people from smuggling it from other countries or brewing it illegally.
  • The 19th Amendment

    The 19th amendment prohibited any United States citizen to be denied the right to vote based on their gender. The 19th amendment made it so that women gained suffrage. It was really hard for women to gain the right to vote but the 19th amendment made it possible
  • The Emergency Quota Act

    This act restricted immigration into the United States. This act made it so that no body could enter the U.S from other countries.
  • The Immigration Act of 1924

    This act was mainly made to prevent asians and Middle easterners from coming to America because the U.S government felt that their culture was way too different from the culture that had been "established" here. This law limited the amount of immigrants that could be allowed into the U.S every year.

    Black Thursday was the start of the Wall Street Crash that started the great depression
  • Black Tuesday

    Black Tuesday was the day that the New York stock exchange crashed, which basically means that, that day the prices for stock were super high. higher than they were actually worth. And then they fell really fast. This day marked the begininng of the great depression because so many people were bankrupt due to bad investments in stock.
  • The invention of television

    Different versions of televisions first started being made in 1862 but it wasn't untill the 1900's that we called it a television or it became the television that we know today. In1929 the first TV studio was opened; however the image quality wasn't the best. In 1930 BBC began regular TV transmissions and from there on it was history. Colored tv didnt come about til the 1950's.
  • The Great Migration

    The great migration was a time mainly between 1910- 1930 in which African Americans migrated from the South to the North. though slavery was no longer around African Americans faced so many hardships in the south. They faced terrible discrimination and rascism. African Americans moved up north in search of jobs and better living conditions for their families.
  • The Hoover Dam began construction

    The hoover dam was built because people in desert areas wanted more of a water supply without suffering floods. It took 6 major construction companies from the U.S to build it.
  • State of 1933 economic crises

    On march 3rd 1933 banks were closed for three days because people were making major money withdrawls from banks. People were in panic. At this time poresident Franklin D Roosevelt also signed the Emergency banking Act
  • Franklin D. Roosevelt is elected president

    Franklin D. Roosevelt did many things to imrpove the lives of people in America during the great depression. He created New Deal Programs.
  • The 21st Amendment

    This amendment got rid of the 18th amendment that prohibited alcohol. It was the only amendment that repealed a previous amendment.
  • Frisbees were invented

    Frisbees were first made in the late 1930's but were officially sold until 1948. Walter Frederick Morrison invented frisbees.
  • GI Bill of rights

    The GI bill of rights was a law that provided benefits for retuning WWII veterans. These benefits included low-cost mortgages, loans to start a business or farm, tuition cash payments and living expenses to attend college etc.
  • The invention of computers

    There were many developments of the computer in the 1940's. Of course the first computer was much larger than the ones we have today. The first computer literally filled an entire room. Computers were intended for communication and now we use them for just about anything.
  • The invention of internet

    The internet came about before 1995 but it wasnt til then that the World Wide Web was invented. The internet has become a huge part of society today and the way we live.
