    British imposed numerous Acts, and Taxed colonist. This led colonist to rebel against the British and carry out things like the Boston Tea Party.

    George Washington was appointed Commander in Chief of the Continental Army.

    Continental Congress Adopt the Declaration of Independence from England.

  • November 15, 1777

    Continental Congress adopt Articles of Confederation considered the first constitution

  • Revolutionary War (1775-1783)

  • September 11, 1786

    Meeting in Annapolis aimed to better regulate international trade. One six out of the thirteen states sent delegates but they agreed to meet the following year in Philadelphia to revise the Articles of Confederation

  • Sept 17, 1787

    Constitutional Convention took place in Philadelphia. Some supported it and some did not.

  • June 21, 1788

    Constitution became the official framework of the government of the United States of America when New Hampshire became the ninth of 13 states to ratify it.

  • April 30, 1789

    George Washington first U.S. President.

  • September 25, 1789

    James Madison submitted twelve amendments by 1791 ten of these amendments were ratified.
