The USS Maine was supposibly destoryed by a Spainish fleet by Havana Cuba. Doing this caused Congress to start a war with Spain.

Spainish and American delegates met in Paris on October 10, 1898 to make the treaty of Paris. The treaty stated that the war would end between America and Spain, and that Cuba would become its own independent country. The treaty would be signed December 10, 1898.

Irish immigrant John P. Holland designed the first submarine for the Americans. The submarine used gas fuel above water and while underwater used electricity. This was a great technology advance for America.

President McKinley is shot by an anarchist twice. The anarchist was Leon Czolgosz, and for obvious reasons he hated the president. The president was expected to recover.

This was a terrible disaster for the Pittsburg Division of the Baltimore & Ohio railroad company. It happened at Laurel Run, when the train went around a sharp reverse turn. The train took a mad plunge and the passengers were killed.

After becoming president when President McKinley died, Roosevelt did a good job. To the point were the American Public re-elected him to be president a second time. He was then inaugurated as President of the United States for the second time.

Einstein developed the Theory of Relativity which is the Theory of the Speed of Light basically. The equation he developed was Enegry=mass x the speed of light squared, or E = mc2.

In June of 1905 President Roosevelt, wanted to have Russia and Japan sign a peace treaty. The leaders of the countries meet in New Hampshire were the treaty would be signed in September of that year. The following year Roosevelt would win the Noble Peace prize for coming up with the idea of a peace treaty.

New Mexico earned the right to become the 47th state of the United States of America. The state was part of Mexico, which is why the state's name is New Mexico.

Arizona became the 48th state of the United States of America. This happened after Congress voted, and agree to allow Arizona to become a state.

The women got the right to vote in February of 1913. Congress voted on it and created the 19th Amendment which allowed women the right to vote.

The Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated in Serbia, by a Sebrians. He was in Serbia for a visit and while during the visit he was shot, like 4 or 5 times. His death, was the main cause for World War I.

Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia after the assassination of the Archduke. They wanted to get revenge for the Archdukes murder so they declared war. This is the beginning of World War I.

Germany declares war on Russia and gets themselves involved in World War I. The Germany backed Austria-Hungry and Russia backed Serbia, to the ultimate fight to the death!

Two days after Germany declared war on Russia, Germany declared war on France. Germany thought they could win a two-front war (we know they can't) and France wasn't backing down. France reacted by declaring war on Germany. Today France joined World War I.

America declares war on Germany because a German U-boats fired torpedoes at the British passenger ship Lusitania sinking the ship. Onboard were 128 Americans. This caused America to join WWI.

Some day in November, 1918 the Germany surrendered to the allies, France, Russia, and The United States. This ended World War I.
