    The battle started in Gettysburg Pennsylvania when Gen. Lee crossed the Potomac river in search of supplies.
  • Introduction

    : Load your cannons and grab your rifles were going to finish off the confederates.. During the Civil War the battle at Gettysburg was the bloodiest battle which had many advantages & disadvantages as well as important postwar advancements for civilians in the US.
  • Battle at Gettysburg Day 1

    A skirmish begins and lee sends 25,000 troops to Gettysburg to advance their position forward and the Union brought 20,000 men to defend their position.

    The federals got pushed back to the cemetery where they were able to strategize so they could regain ground lost to the Confederates.

    The total number of soldiers lost was a total of 35,000 men that day on July 2.

    General Lee wants to attack the Union where they stood which was near Culp’s Hill.

    Lee orders James Longstreet who’s second in command to attack the union from the left while Richard Elwell’s troops would attack from the right at Culp’s Hill.

    Longstreet’s orders were to attack at about 10am Longstreet did not move his men into position until 4p.m. which helped give the union enough time to strategize and strengthen their army at their position.

    15,000 men who are from Maj. Gen. George Pickett to advance ¾ of mile of open road, climb fences and charge up the steep hill to kill 6,500 Union soldiers.

    At 1:00 in the morning a strategic Confederate artillery cannon barrage which starched two miles took out a lot of union soldiers. Union Cannons kept firing back but slowed down to conserve ammo which gave the confederates enough time to send in more troops.

    Through all the gun smoke and artillery fire Pickett’s men drifted left which exposed them to Union gunfire. The Confederate did make it through the union center but union reinforcements pushed the confederates back.
  • After the War

    General Lee counts his dead soldiers and tells his armies that survived that “its my fault” and fled back to Virginia, after losing thousands of soldiers to a disappointing defeat.
    General Meade counts his soldiers and returns back to their homes with thousands of lost soldiers and a ton of bloodshed the union still managed to win with a victory.
  • After the war

    President Lincoln goes to the battlefield on November 19 and has a speech that was the Gettysburg address that lasted 2 minutes he also makes the battlefield a military cemetery for all the soldiers who died during the war.
