    Eberspächer CFD Optimization
    Global automotive supplier Eberspächer GmbH worked with Altair ProductDesign to improve the design of its catalyst range. The shape of the catalytic converter was optimized to increase the flow uniformity and decrease the pressure drop which in turn, increased the life and efficiency of the catalyst.

  • Boeing Helicopter Loading Ramp

    Boeing Helicopter Loading Ramp
    Altair ProductDesign worked with Boeing's engineering team to reduce the weight of the CH-47 Chinook helicopter's loading ramp truss structure. Topology optimization was used to define the designable area and expected loading during use. The results of the study were analysed and interpreted to create a new design that was 17% lighter than the original.

    Medtronic Stent Optimization
    Medical stents need to be extremely robust to ensure they continue to function over many years. Altair ProductDesign worked with Medtronic to improve the performance of its stent design.     Volkswagen Composite B-Pillar
    Altair ProductDesign worked with Volkswagen during a research project to establish a process for designing lightweight composite components and validate them using simulation technology. Altair used its composite optimization experience to create a minimum mass, high strength design for the test component, a B-Pillar. The final design was 30% lighter than the metal original.   • Sea-Doo Concept Optimization

    Sea-Doo Concept Optimization
    Altair ProductDesign worked with Sea-Doo to optimize the design of a hull from its jet ski range. Topology or freeform optimization was used, allowing the technology to suggest a layout based on pre-determined loading conditions. After interpreting the optimization and analysis results, the new hull had a 6% reduction in overall mass.
  • Eurocopter Composite Tailboom

    Eurocopter Composite Tailboom
    Altair ProductDesign worked with Eurocopter to optimize the design of a composite helicopter tailboom. The objective was to improve the performance of the component without increasing weight. Altair used its 3 stage composite optimization process to improve the layout of the individual material layers. The fianl design improved deflection loads by 35% and buckling load cases by 10%.
