    Article LinkNeeding a win on the final Friday of the season to make the playoffs for the first time in three years, Beth-Center, which had lost its previous 25 section games before this season, nearly squandered a 15-point, fourth quarter lead but did enough down the stretch to pull out a 69-64 win over Bentworth to tie Jefferson-Morgan for the fourth and final spot in Section 5-AA.
  • Mapletown wins first playoff game in 41 years

    Mapletown tops Leechburg, 49-29, in a WPIAL Class A preliminary round boys basketball game at Chartiers Valley High School. The playoff win is the first for the Maples in 41 years, dating back to 1972, when Mapletown won a WPIAL title and made it to the second round of the PIAA playoffs.

    West Greene girls achieve rare feat
    The West Greene girls basketball team downs Clairton, 50-26, in a WPIAL Class A preliminary round game at West Allegheny High School to become the only Washington or Greene County team (the South Fayette and Monessen boys also did it) to win playoff games in back-to-back seasons.

It pulls McGuffey into the state playoffs – for the first time in program history – meaning we avoid this being the first year since 1981 that Washington and Greene counties are without a PIAA playoff team.
