Auguste Comte

  • BIRTH OF AUGUSTE COMTE

    Auguste Comte was born on January 19,1798 in Montpellier France to his father Louis Comte a government tax official and his mother Rosalie Comte. who were both devout monarchist and roman Catholics. Auguste would later abandon this beliefs and turn to republicanism that contributed to his future work and studies.
  • AUGUSTE TEEN/ADULT

    In 1814 Auguste entered school at the Ecole Polytechnique were he was considered brilliant and ranked 4th in the admissions list. he later would meet Henri Saint-Simon who was a social theorist and early founder of the European socialism. This was the beginning of his early career where he published articles that made him stand out in the eyes of the public.
  • CAREER DEVELOPMENT

    Auguste started teaching lectures on Positive Philosophy to a selective group of scientist who at the time were considered famous. while his course due to having a nervous breakdown and a mental crisis this contributed to health problems that would affect him till his death.
  • COURSE ON POSITIVE PHILOSOPHY

    once Auguste was feeling better he began to continue his lectures on positive philosophy in January 1829. Where he would for the next 13 yrs work and complete his major work a series of six volumes on Course of positive philosophy.
  • AUGUSTE LATE CAREER

    As Auguste continued to work as a tutor at Ecole Polytechnique he would petition to create a chair in general history of science at the College de France in 1833 but would be denied. This then led Auguste in 1842 to publish the last volume in his series called "personal preface". When this article was published it did not receive good feedback from administrators and would cast him away.
  • AUGUSTE SECOND CAREER

    1844 was the beginning of a great year for Auguste as where he would publish an article on "Philosophical Treatise on Popular Astronomy" and was well perceived by the public. he then meet Clotilde de Vaux that same year that began his "second career" and started working on a new project called "System of Positive Polity". this was a four volume series and was later finished in 1854.
  • AUGUSTE COMTE'S DEATH

    Auguste Comte died in Paris, France September 5th, 1857 to stomach cancer. Auguste was burred in the Pere-Lachaise cemetery and in 1983 there was a statue erected in his honor called the statue of humanity from his Brazilian followers.
