    While in Paris, Alexandre began writing plays for the theater, his first play was Henry lll and His Court which were produced in 1829. His next play Christine was just as popular and he was financially able to write full-time.

    On 1 February 1840 Alexandre married actress Ida Ferrier, though he was married he was not faithful which led to numerous liaisons with other women, fathering at least four illegitimate children. One of those children, a son named after him who would later end up following in Alexandre’s footsteps.
