Osama bin Laden founds al-Qaeda. The name is Arabic for “The Base”. It was originally formed to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan. Its goal is to rid Muslim countries of what it believes to be profane influence of the West and influence their governments with fundamentalist Islamic regimes. -

Osama bin Laden threatens attacks on the US. He claims he is planning “unprecedented attacks.” The US received several warnings but they “did not take it so seriously, preferring to see what would happen before reporting it.” -
September 11 Attacks
Remember 9/11There is an attack on the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington DC and a field Pennsylvania. The death toll comes close to 3,000 people. Al-Qaeda is blamed days after. -
No Hope to “dream of security”
The U.S launches air attacks aiming at al-Qaeda training camps. Osama bin Laden, in a video taped message, swears the U.S can never “dream of security” until U.S influences leave the Middle East. He also praises God for the September 11 attacks. -
Threats to be “killed just as you kill”
Osama bin Laden threatens Britain, France, Italy, Canada, Germany, and Australia, all of whom support the U.S. He says, “you will be killed just as you kill, and will be bombed just as you bomb.” This is the beginning of multiple attacks on these countries. -

A messaged is broadcasted of Osama bin Laden. In his message, Osama bin laden claims full responsibility for the September 11, 2001 attacks against the U.S. He addresses President Bush saying, “we will continue to fight you and your allies everywhere…” -
Bin Laden Addresses US Citizens
Bin Laden addresses the citizens of the US, instead of President Bush, to get their support on troops pulling out of Iraq. He does this because of polls showing “an overwhelming” majority of Americans wanted the US out of Iraq. He also threatens bombing attacks on the US. -
Bin Laden is Dead

Beware al-Qaeda Revenge
Al-Qaeda vows revenge on the U.S and its allies over the death over Osama bin Laden. There will be revenge attempts, but their ability has been weakened. We should not assume his ideas will fade with his death.
