    During the the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, this group received a lot of support by Pakistan and Saudi Arabia because they were neighboring countries also against communism. Many volunteers from these countries funnelled money, arms, and even soldiers from into Afghanistan, with the assistance and support of their governments. The United States and Russia were also involved. This agreement helped exile the Red Army out of Afghanistan, an end to a 9-year-long occupation by the Soviets.

    This civil war took place in Afghanistan and lasted for four years (1992-1996). This had all started after the Soviets left in 1989 and the resulting collapse of the communist Najibullah regime in 1992. The Najibullah regime was lead by president Mohammad Najibullah Ahmadzai. His power was weakened by the Mujahideen finally overtaken by the Taliban in 1992 when they had taken over Kabul. Several thousand civilians died in the process.
