  • Battle of Gulnabad

    It was led by Mahmud. The afghan army captured the safavid capital of Isfahan.

  • Coronation of Ahmad Khan Abdali

  • Ahmad Shah Durrani of the Abdali Pahstun confederacy declared the establishment of an independent afghanistan

  • Afghanistan is divided

    There was a civil war for many years. After th war, Afghanistan was finally safely divided between Dost Mohammod and some of his brothers.
  • 4500 British troops withdraw from Kabul

    January 1842 the British garrison of some 4500 troops withdraws from Kabul, leaving Shah Shuja to his fate
  • Durand Line established

    Abdur Rahman and British Raj representative Mortimer Durand signed an agreement establishing the Durand Line.
  • New Afghan King

    Nadir was assassinated. His son, Mohammed Zahir Shah, was proclaimed King
  • Communist Party's First congress

    The Marxist People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA) held its first congress.
  • Saur Revolution

    Military units loyal to the PDPA assaulted the Afghan Presidential Palace, killing President Mohammed Daoud Khan and his family
  • Soviet Police Action

    A treaty was signed which permitted deployment of the Soviet military at the Afghan government's request. They militarily supported the communist afghan government until the opposition forces
  • Operation Storm-333

    Soviet troops occupied major governmental, military and media buildings in Kabul, including the Tajbeg Palace, and executed Prime Minister Amin.
  • Soviet withdrawl

    The last Soviet troops left the country.
  • Afghan Civil War

    Afghan political parties signed the Peshawar Accord which created the Islamic State of Afghanistan and proclaimed Sibghatullah Mojaddedi its interim President.
  • Afghan Civil War Pakistani Involvment

    Gulbuddin Hekmatyar's Hezbi Islami, with the support of neighboring Pakistan, began a massive bombardment against the Islamic State in the capital Kabul.
  • Taliban Forms

    The Taliban government began to form in a small village between Lashkar Gah and Kandahar.
  • Taliban Seizes power

    The Taliban conquered Kabul and declared the establishment of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. Former President Mohammad Najibullah, who had been living under United Nations protection in Kabul, was tortured and executed by Taliban forces.
  • Afghan War begins

    It was a direct result of 9/11. The US joined to get the Al-Qaeda terrorists out of Afghanistan
