    Theodore Roosevelt Becomes President
    After President William McKinley's assassination Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt became president. He was part of the Republican party and stayed president from 1901-1906. Teddy was very passionate about conservation and created some of America's first national parks. He also started the Pure Food and Drug Act and looked out for workers and made sure working conditions were improved.

    William Taft, Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson all competed for the presidential election of 1912. Taft was the Republican nominee, Roosevelt was the Progressive nominee and Wilson was the Democratic. Wilson won the election because the republican vote was split between Taft and Roosevelt.

    Because of Germany being careless and sneaky at America's expense, Woodrow Wilson and congress declared war on Germany. Germany had previously used unrestricted warfare, tried to convince Mexico to join them and sunken three American merchant ships. These, and other, things encouraged America to declare war on Germany.

    On this day, Germany stopped fighting. An armistice was signed between the Allies of WWI and Germany. This day is now known as Veterans Day in the U.S. and is still celebrated to this day.
