    Absolom was currently at Camp Anderson.He was feeling homesick being away from his wife and children. He's worried about his wife and children getting sick or something bad happening to them while he's away. Him and the other soldiers were waiting to be mustered into the United States.
  • Nelson County, Kentucky

    Absolom is currently at Camp Morton. He is tolerate about being away from his family. When they first arrived it was very nice. There camp has been raind on for the past days. The rain has caused there to be knee deep mud. The men were having to lay on the wet ground because they had no straw to put down. Due to the weather many of the soldiers at the camp are becoming sick. Not only were soldiers getting sick but the horses and them were not being fed half enough food.
  • Bardstown, Kentucky

    Absolom and the others soldiers have moved to a vacant lot in Bardstown, Kentucky. He was glad to be out of the mud and on dry land. He felt disappointed when the letters came and almost all the other soldier had gotten letters from home and he didn't. Ever since he had came back from home the captain wouldn't let anyone leave to visit home. They have to stand gaurd every other night because the Federal troops are gaining.

    The soldiers have traveled 45 mioles from the last location. The worst weather has passed but Absolom still worries about sickness. He wants to go home to his family as soon as he can but for now he has sent them $20. The 600 people that were in the hospital have been dying at a rate of 4 people per day. The soldiers have had to bury them. Between the time that they move to the next location he wants to make peace with one another.

    On the way to Gallatin the soldiers had to walk a long tedious way through a torn up country. Fences were nearly burnt along the roads and houses were abondoned and torn to pieces. He wishes to come home but he doesnt know when he can. He has told his wife to send him more letters since the last time he sent money to them. The company had refused to go any further without pay and more arm. The colonel went to get more guns and they returned with guns that some regiments had refused.

    The soldiers have moved from Gallaton to Hardin. Absolom was appointed quartermaster sergeant. He now has a wage of $21 dollars a month. Being the quartermaster sergeant, Absolom is exempt from all kinds of duty except weighing out the rations to the companies. There was a fight about 100 miles awayfrom them in Corinin. The secesh were beaten and had lost about 40,000 soldiers. The corinin lost about 15 to 20 thousnad soldiers.The colonel was thrown out and replaced with a man called smith.

    The soldiers have moved about 55 miles from Nashville on the Nash and Chattanooga railroad. Absolom was glad to hear from his family and wishes to come home when he can. Since they have arrived there has been several alarms. Sometimes they would hear that the enemy was coming towards them with large forces. The soldiers have to be careful where they eat or drink in the country. There has been soldier poisoned but most of them are well. A german soldier was poisoned and died 15 minutes after bein

    The men had gotten back from Lebanon.There was a fight between them and the rebals. The rebal had at least 800 men and they had only 600 men. The soldiers had killed about 70 of the rebals, took 200 as prisoners, 155 of their horses, and 180 stands of arm. One of the companies had been killed and 5 wounded. When the men got back their clothes were shot to peices. The Colonel was shot in the knee. There was one of the Secesh soldier that came to warn that they were goimg to attack.

    The men have been facing the hottest weather. He trys to send a letter at least once a week and is glad his family is safe. There have been several men discharged because of wounds. Some of the men that have had wounds are doing well. The sickness has died down since his last letters. The men have been standing still waiting for an attack of Corinth.

    The soldiers think that the war will last even longer. The rebals have been attaking Federal troops. Rebals are 4000 strong and all cavalry. Their troops have been attcked by rebals ever since the fight at Richmond. The rebals have also retaken Baton Rouge again. None of the soldier can home back until their troops retake Manfreesboro. The McClellan army was cut to pieces. Their troops at Manfreesboro have been taken prisoners.

    The men are still facing very hot weather. Absolom misses his family and wishes to come home. The Hardin men are doing well but some of them were discharged for 2 to 3 weeks. Absolom has lost his office but got a new one for less pay. He goes to Nashville everyday and returns the next. There was 4 soldiers killed near Manfreesboro by the Guerrillas. The men have been expecting to be attacked.

    Absolom and the other soldiers have moved to manchester. He wish to Come home to his family but he can't. It has been 3 months since he has last left home. He misses his family. He wants them to stay where they are so that they will be safe. Every letter he sends to them he tells his wife to kiss the children for him.

    Absolom has been sick forabout a week but is getting better each day. He has been waiting to be discharged by the General. Secesh canadidates were arrested. Slaves of the rebals were to be let free.
