WE was when Americans expanded from the Atlantic Coast to the Pacific Coast. Americans settled West for new land, escape due to religious reasons, gold, exploration, and it was the people's destiny. WE led to sectionalism because the North and South had an issue with slavery, and both sides disagreed with each other and the country was not united. It led to the Civil War because more states entered the U.S. and the spread of slavery began, and those became the factors of the Civil War.

This compromise was when 3 out of 5 slaves were counted deciding a state’s total population for representation and taxation. The compromise benefited the slave states because they had more power than before. The ⅗ compromise connects to sectionalism because it had to connect the nation because they couldn’t get along. This led to the Civil War because this gave an unequal representation of slave states. -
During States’ Rights, the US admitted a lot of free states and tried to abolish slavery, which the South did not like. The South’s economy ran on cash crops which needed a lot of labor. They used slaves for free and cheap labor. They argued that with slavery gone, it would cost more to maintain the cash crops which would hurt their economy. This is sectionalism because the South is arguing for themselves and not the North which eventually led to the Civil War. -
The URR was many secret trails that helped enslaved people escape to the North & CA. It resulted in freedom for many enslaved people. It also led to the Civil War and caused sectionalism because slaves knew this was unjust, so the South got mad at them because they thought of the slaves as their property, & that they were getting away. The North did not help the slaves, so the South got mad at the North then the nation separated, & the Civil War started.

MO was going to become a slave state, but that would give slave states a majority, so it was admitted as slave with ME as free. However, there was still the rest of the LA purchase, so the Compromise Line: 36º30’N declared the Northern states free and the Southern states slaved. This is sectionalism because it favored the North. The line was drawn so there were more free states than slaved, so this was unfair. It led to the Civil War because the North and South had different views of slavery. -
Most of the land west of the LA Purchase was added as part of this compromise by the US. It said that CA would be a free state, that UT and NM would have popular sovereignty, the Fugitive Slave Law was approved, D.C. banned Slave Trade, and TX received $10 million and made a border with NM. This increased sectionalism and caused the Civil War because it increased the amount of free states and caused an imbalance. The compromise also favored the North because they have more states than the South. -
This states that even in a free state, enslaved people must be returned to their owners. The national government was also in charge of tracking down slaves and returning them, and slaves who attempted or someone trying to help the slaves escape were likely to get arrested. This was sectionalism because this act increased the debate over slavery, and the North and the South argued even more about the issue of slavery which eventually led to the Civil War. -
Tubman helped in the URR by working as a conductor, abolitionist, suffragist, and a human rights activist. She rescued 300 slaves in 19 journeys and rescued around 50-60 people in 8 or 9 journeys. She led them to safety in Canada. Tubman’s actions led to the Civil War and caused sectionalism because she helped 300 people escape to the North, and it made the South angry and fearful. It also made the North mad because they hated slavery, and now slaves came to their side. -
This meant that all enslaved people not living under Union control or living in Confederate areas would be free. This proclamation freed more than 3.5 million slaves. It also promised to maintain and acknowledge the freedom of the slaves. This proclamation was issued during the Civil War. It was sectionalism because the South got really mad because they did not get what they wanted at all, and the North accomplished their goal of getting rid of slavery.
